Spot on, Bozza. Now here's the buzz. With Jake Lever(Adl), seemingly all but going to Melb, the Crows would demand a high price. Definitely a first rounder plus player or 2 first rounders. Here's where Freo could enter and help to get Jesse Hogan for 2018 and beyond. We all know he's got another 2 years to run. And after an emotional year for Jesse, he'd probably request a trade back home. I'd flick Pick 5 and Balic to the Dees for Jesse. The Demons could then use their pick 5(from us) and their own pick 10 to get Lever. Watch this space.

I don't understand the obsession with Hogan. He hasn't proved himself any more than Taberner and would merely push Taberner back to Peel, like Tarrant did to Murphy 10 years ago.

Balic was a second round pick who would have gone in the first round if he hadn't had a wrist injury and he has real potential. He is worth a high second round or even a first round pick. So pick 5 plus Balic for Hogan would be squandering two high picks for a player who would add little. Better to stick with Taberner, McCarthy and even Kirsten and go for quality mid fielders.

Jesse Hogan has played 51 games for 105 goals and is two years younger than Tabs.

What if we traded pick 5 plus Tabs for Hogan and trade Balic to who ever offers the highest pick we can get.

Unfortunately I don't think we will end up with much for Balic. He's only played a hand full of games and wants out. We're not in a great position. Late 2nd round if we're lucky. Jezza that deal has Melbourne losing pick 10 and Hogan for Balic and Lever. I'm not sure that gets over the line. Happy to be proven wrong.

The key will be for Hogan to request a trade back home for compassionate reasons. Any organization worth its salt would grant Jesse that request. He then nominates Freo as his club. As it stands for Melb to get Lever, they'd have to cough up big time. Offer of $850k is being talked about. Adelaide would want a player plus more in return. Freo's pick 5 would be gold in return for Jesse, after all he was drafted as a 17 year old concession. While the Dees would be losing Jesse, getting Lever would be a massive coup. Balic's currency IMO, could get the deal done.

I would do that deal in a heartbeat and believe the only way we loose pick 5 is if Hogan comes our way. Bare in mind that our offer last year for Hogan when he was out of contract would of been far superior than your proposed deal. A contracted player normally comes at a higher price.

You cannot compare Hogan and Taberner. Hogan kicked 85 goals in his first two seasons. I stand to be corrected but I think he has every great forward in recent times covered for goals kicked in their first two seasons in the bigs.

I did a stats comparison between Tabs and Hogan, and one thing that stood out for me was that Tabs averaged 8.1 kicks, and 4.1 clangers. He also gave away 2.4 free kicks a game - which puts him 8th in the league - while receiving only 1 in return. So for his average of 11.5 total disposals a game, he is literally gifting the other team 6.4 possessions - or every second possession.

I like Tabs, and his contested marking is much-needed, but that's extraordinary profligacy on his part, and I bet that stat isn't lost Lyon.

But yeah, Hogan would be an enormous upgrade, and we'd almost certainly need to cough up more than pick 5 and Balic to get him.

There is no way in the world Balic goes near a first round pick, with luck and some good negotiation we get back into the second round. That is under the assumption that being home sick is the only reason he has sat out the end of the season.

Exactly DBTS - Homesick is certainly not the real reason..
All these varying potential trades where we get something good for Balic as a combo deal are on the assumption he is a squeeky clean young vic fella looking at getting home.
I actually dont even think Freo would keep him even if he wanted to stay...put it that way.
