And the stars continue to align for the slime. If they had made the GF and played Sydney, it would have been a slaughter. But should they face Geebung, they'd have a chance.
But I hate Sydney, and I'd always take my pleasure now rather than deferred, so great to see them go down.

I wonder whether RoLy will have taken note of the tactics of Geelong in playing Dangerfield forward, and the fact that doing so did not decimate their midfield. I think that a bold move of playing Fyfe as a stay at home full forward, and Tabs as the leading CHF ( I rate him a better player than Hawkins) would free up McCarthy to play his natural role, similar to Gunston in the Hawks golden years.

RM, spot on! I was thinking the exact thing when watching Dangerfield. It was actually the uncertainty of where Danger played - middle or forward - that really stuffed up the Swans.

Some of us on D/L have been advocating it as the answer to our power forward/goalkicking problems for some time. Obviously C Scott reads D/L more than RoLy and Bond...

Danger has really embraced the geelong style. I can't recall him playing for so many frees while with Adelaide. The question is would fyfe receive the same frees in front of goal?

Probably not, but in itself that would supply more ammo for the conspiracy theories.

I agree. I would like him to spend more time playing out of the goal square

There in lies the paradigm shift required at our club. Currently Goal squares are only useful for filling up with defensive players while the opposition is kicking for goal. They have no other value....

And with the likes of Walters and Bennel around the half fwd line drilling in perfect lace-outs. It's got to be a winning plan.

I'd like to see it too, but it relies on taking your best midfielder out of play and the rest of your midfield picking up the slack and making sure it gets into your forward line enough and in a decent manner. Something we were not capable of very often this year.

It worked a couple of times for the Cats this year. No reason why with Blakely and Walters firing , and Sutcliffe (the best midfielder not playing midfield in the comp), in his rightful position, we will be unstoppable.
