I was up in Kalumburu yesterday and spoke with Jason's Mum and his uncle and the word is he will be in the dockers squad next year.
Any clues on how the next generation boys get into our squad, do they form part of the draft system?

Both the Dockers and Slime have been allocated zones in the Pilbara and South West where talent identification and academy selection is the pathway for young indiginous kids to fulfill their dream. Similar to GWS and the Sydney Academy, they can identify talent, select them in their academy and have first dibs come draft day. Like Issac Heeney and several others on the Eastern Seaboard, these kids would have been top 10 draft Picks and taken by other clubs had it not been for the academy structure. So if Carter was to join the Dockers next year, he's then picked up as an academy pick. That's my take on it.

So what actual picks do we have to use to get Jason? Is it a case of combining points from later picks or do we have to use our first or second round picks?

It depends when another team bids on him, we either match the number of points with a selection of picks or if we feel it's to expensive we let the other team have him.

CA ...he's at Aquinas and he is a gun.... Surprised he's only just come on the radar. Would not be surprised if he's a sneaky draft pick. Great kid also....

I read somewhere that he picked up an injury and missed the Under 18's Carnival. He'd normally be playing colts for Claremont but not listed in their lineup so possibly still injured. Anyone have some more up to date info?

CA and others....he's had problems with his knee, has struggled with it over the years as a growing lad. Kid as good as he can play any position in junior, PSA footy. But probably a lanky midfielder/ half forward would be his eventual destination. Played in the last game of year, coming back from injury.
Charlie Camerons brother Jarrod showed more in that game. Same 182 cm height. Well skilled...like his brother.
He'll go alright as well...

He'll go alright as well...as long as this kind of natural instinct to take the game on isn't drilled out of him.
Don't, don't look back. Or sideways for that matter.

I was lucky enough to meet with Jasons clan up here. There is a real buzz about the kimberly boys making it in the big smoke. Callum Ah Chee, Sam Petrevski-Seton and now the next one is Jason Carter.
Solid family, ticked all the assimiation boxes boarding school and ready to roll.
By the way his uncle is 6 foot 3 and Jason is an inch or 2 taller than him

So, please correct me if I'm wrong, but in that article they mentioned he was a bottom ager, doesn't that mean we cannot draft him till next year?
Looks great, love the way he plays on all the time and backs himself with ball in hand, also noticed his team mates laid some nice Sheparding to give him space, freo could learn from that.

Jason Carter's Bio:
DOB: 11/1/2000
Wt: 72Kgs
Ht: 182cms

Player eligibility for the national draft- Currently a player must be 18 on or before 30 April the year following the National draft. And he must be contracted for a minimum of 2 years because he's not 18 before 31 December of the draft year.

That makes Carter eligible to be drafted this year by Freo as our academy pick. Doubt if clubs would bid for him due to the fact that he didn't participate in this year's U18 carnival. So likely we'll use one of our last picks to snare him.
