If we go back to Distributing players amongst all WAFL teams then the two WA afl clubs are disadvantaged again. All other afl clubs have reserve or alignment teams so that players are together under one coach which is why we are doing this in the first place. Why the cash rich afl don't support an afl reserves competition whereby teams travel I don't know. Although we'd still need top up players.

I'm sure in a couple years time where we have a best 22, then you won't see such an alarming number of senior Freo players playing Wafl finals. There will still be the lower light players who simply can't break their way into the best 22 and are thus relegated to playing for Peel.

Well, if you are serious about preserving what little integrity remains in the WAFL, then the alignment system must be removed.

I don't think its reasonable for an entire state peak league be subordinated to the wants of two AFL clubs. The AFL needs strong state systems to provide players for the future. Screwing the state competitions to death for short term interests is a poor idea and a reflection of stupidity rampant in a Victorian-centric football competition.

There is no perfect solution. None.

You can make life easier for two footy teams and screw up the WAFL or you can make life less easy for two AFL teams and try to preserve the WAFL as a viable league. I won't say preserve the WAFL's integrity as their is precious little of that. You would need to completely remove the WAFC if you want to get integrity back into the WAFL.

In the end, money talks. Football is a commodity now, not a sport. Pretending otherwise is blindness

Why don't we just simply have a reserve team that only plays in the home and away season and the purely wafl teams only play in the finals? Then you can remove all the handout money to all the wafl teams and then see how they like that.

Gee's Shane Gets grumpy when East Fremantle only make the WAFL top 8 by 6% points. imagine if they had done a Ninethmond. I recon Fremantle should align with East Fremantle and this would sort out the angst.

It seems like there are a lot of assumptions that Peel will win the GF. Thats no lay down misere.

I cant really get too upset over the poor old WAFL integrity. Give me a break. Its not like Fyfe, Neale, Mundy, Sandilands and the Hills are playing for Peel. Even Weller Langdon and Blakely didnt qualify.

These alleged Freo AFL guys that are playing WAFL are truly WAFL players. Due to a historic cleanout at Freo last year on the back of 4 wins, these WAFL players have been elevated prematurely to the bigs but by no means are these hardened AFL veterans being cynically inserted into the lower grades to dominate youngsters, as implied in the media. Collins can hardly get a game and then theres all the oldies like Fist and Ibbo who can hardly raise a trot any more.

Where was all the outcry when Peel got slaughtered in the finals and Subi waltzed through due to the alignment model, when Roly took the B team to Launceston I think it was to play the Hawks.

This situation where there are so many eligible Freo players is truly a once a decade or so phenomenon and I cant see it being the same next year.

Its really not Freos responsibility to ponder the fairness and integrity of the WAFL and sacrifice anything at all for the good of the game. Peel have a responsibility to try and pick the best possible team, to win the game, within the rules, thats it really.

The AFL could sort all this mess out tomorrow by reintroducing a national Reserves comp.

Piggyback it off the senior comp in that, like WAFL and other state leagues do, they play as a curtin raiser for the Senior game. There'll be more travel costs for sure, but other costs can be mitigated across the two games such as ground fees.

It would be a great way to help sides bond their entire lists with regular travel together & show the kids what it takes to make it to the big stage.

Team list sizes would obviously be an issue, so perhaps the reserve sides are able to draft/nominate another 10- 15 or so players from lower levels (e.g. Amateurs, colts) they can call upon to field full sides if injuries/suspensions reduce eligible players below the 44 needed each weekend.

But of course, this makes sense and levels the playing field somewhat for non-Victorian teams so it'll never happen.

BTW as mentioned somewhere Roly is on The Front Bar this week. Does this mean he is already in Melbourne and not bothering to watch his young guns at Peel nor give his 'love child' a farewell. Interesting to see if he'll get back for it.

The Yeti was spot on - make the rules, play by them. The WAFL was stuffed when they yahooed the Carries to S Geraldton, they never looked after their own nest when the alignment was bought by the carpetbaggers running the club's. Now they're whining about the camp being uneven. Since when was the competition ever even?

When one club has the ability to leverage (very substantially) off the 2 WA-based AFL clubs through game day lunches to the exclusion of all others - even after they officially moved to Leederville Oval - then 'level playing field' and 'WAFL' should never feature in the same sentence.

If you read what The Yeti is saying, it's that he thinks the idea is so terrible that he wants it to run it's course so the whole thing implodes and they have to scrap it.

But it's a reality that the AFL clubs want all their players in one spot. They can't afford their own teams, the AFL can't afford their own league so this host club thing is what's going to happen in some form or another.

I think they should make it workable, which means that Peel and East Perth shouldn't suddenly be able to dominate in the finals through the use of idle AFL players. If Fremantle are going to play right up to the line of the rule then you have to change the rules because they are not sustainable.

They brought in rules to curb Subiaco using their financial advantage to dominate, I can't see why it's irrational to attempt to curb Peel's obvious advantage.

What I want to know is, will there be a crowd at Subi on Sunday for the GF. If it's lopsided, then I suspect many will stay away. History suggests even when Subi was dominating, there was still a healthy crowd. Jarrod Schofield would not want to lose back to back GFs. It'll do his coaching credentials no good.

Rhufus is spot on most of the 15 or so players played most of the season with Peel , They are not A listers , 9 of them have played the majority of the season with peel , And another 5 have played around ten games with peel , So a storm in a teacup as far as i'm concerned . Also anything that stops Subi from Winning every year is great as far as i'm concerned
