Now obviously not all these would go. Balic is a definite trade, but low value. Not a lot of trade value in that list. Pearce and Sutcliffe have another year to go on their contracts.

I know we don't have a second round pick but how many picks could we get, knowing that once you get past about 40 you're not likely to get much quality.

We've talked up getting local talent but the one thing we need is a big marking forward and I don't know of any W.A. players that fit the bill. Liam Ryan would be great but surely would go early.

We could get lucky lower down the list and pick up a couple of good midfielders in Tim Kelly and Jye Bolton. They would get more of the ball than Sheridan and Suban do now.

A few commentators over here tipped Liam Ryan to go first round last year and he didn't even get picked up. I am guessing that maybe there were queries on his fitness. Either way, he rebounded from the disappointment and kicked 68 goals so I can't see him getting missed again. Still, he may last till the third round or late second. Freo should look at him and Schloithe (again). Schloithe would be a late pick.
We have kicked 100 points 6 times in 2 seasons and need goalkickers.
The other player worth pursuing is Wilson from gws. He wants to come home apparently and we have been crying out for a smallish desperate defender for a while. Especially one that can kick accurately. Price will be the issue obviously.

I think Ballas is a season by season proposition, and value at that. As someone said he has looked better at the end of the season with a tall forward (Tabs) providing the type of structure that suits a crumbing dynamo.

I would like to see Suban stay to offer the hard nut that can dish out a bit for the young fellas.

I don't agree there is no value below 40 in the draft, some of the better players in our squads over the past 10 years have been taken in that range. I think Ryan would be better value than Matera, but we need to find a big forward, someone built like Darcy, with the same attitude and a laser boot.

I know more than a couple of you will say I should be committed to care for this idea, but I would like to see Harley Bennell played as a sweeper ( give him Guernsey 43) in the backline. I remember watching him play a couple of games in that role for the Suns, and he looked very comfortable with it.

We're all looking elsewhere when we've got one in our midst. Bennell is destined for the midfield. Throw in Son Son, Neale, Hill Bros, Mundy and even Blakely, Fyfe moves forward. He's kicked more goals in the last 3 weeks then Kersten, McCarthy and Tabener, I think. We bring in Matera and Wilson and just wait for Hogan to get here, if not 2018 then it's 2019. After the Demons debacle this year on missing finals, Hogan will be even keener to get home.

I hate this time of the year, especially after a miserable year that has delivered more pain than most could stomach. So now, on top of that, we have to face that shameful circus of all those disparaging opinions that decide who gets the hangman's noose.

When you finish 14th with a percentage of a mere .1% better than the wooden spooner odds are you need to cut/trade/replace 80% of your list.

But is it just the playing list that needs a clean out Polly?

If Matera is the answer, I'm not sure what the question is.

Get M. McGovern, if he can play swingman like his brother you get two players for the price of one. I'm guessing he'll sign with the Slime and it will be the Cornes Bros in reverse.

If there isn't much value beyond 40.. well Sean Darcy was pick 38, Luke Ryan was beyond 40, Neale was also beyond 40. So there is potential to still pick up someone decent with a late pick, albeit you start to see a few more mature age mids go later.

Our best 22 from this season on the park, we could have won say three more games, so clearly it is those outside the starting best 22 who will be the first to go. That much is obvious. The issue is that none of those players have any value on the trade table, at all. We are going to have to lose more quality to bring quality in.

Back on the subject of this thread, things aren't so bad.
Seriously, after last year's really brutal cull, and setting aside the older players who have now retired, or been put out to pasture, just how many current Dockers squad players deserved to be dumped?
What's left now is, with the odd exception, genuine quality, which can only be further improved with careful, targeted recruitment.
A more optimistic discussion would be: who's in our best 22?
Next season, in addition to a fully fit Harley Bennell, I'm looking forward to seeing Ed Langdon, Connor Blakeley, Mchael Walters, Bradey Grey and Alex Pearce back from injury. Add to that team Sandilands and Sean Darcy sharing the ruck, as well as developing players like Griffen Logue, Darcy Tucker, Ethan Hughes, Brennan Cox and Luke Ryan becoming regulars, and, to me at least, things look OK.

So we're after all the WA boys that have been drafted by other clubs to come home. Why don't we just draft all the WA talent that's on offer and available in the first place. So we've built the ARC down at Cockburn for the big flood. Genius.
