How bout we get a "Starting Coach" to help the "Stoppage Coach" get them going?

But then you'd need a start/stop coach, to make sure the start coach is starting when they're not stopping, and a stoppage coach that coaches stops when they aren't starting.

It's going to make a mess of Lyon's spreadsheets.

I don't know about that. I reckon if Ross read that he might start getting a little bit excited, envisaging all those backwards sideways kicks would get his ticker racing.

Here's a stroke of real geniusthatwillbe: keep coaching them the same, but tell them to kick at the wrong goals. Then all their backwards kicks will be going forward.

Of all the lines, the forward line which probably had the worst performance of all of them, was also lead by the most inexperienced coach in David Hale.

I thought he was one of our better assistant coaches?

We may have a good group of players next year but I'm not so sure about the coaching group.

If young players are expected to make big improvements after their 1st year and a full pre-season, can't the same be expected of 1st time assistant coaches?

Can't help but wonder that having relied on M.Pavlich as our (one & only) key forward for the best part of a decade - the first season he's not out there and we struggle to score (2nd lowest in 2017).

Despite many unsuccessful attempts at luring a key forward across (prob a good thing when you look at what happened to M.Clark & Cloke after rejecting us), fact is we've never had a replacement that either consistently plays well (Tabs) or can stay fit enough, for long enough (Apeness).

Throw in the fact two of our 'key forwards' this year were both from other clubs - and in Cammac's case - out of footy for 12 months prior to arriving.

Fyfe coming back from a couple of broken legs didn't help either.

So when the team no longer has the 'kick it to Pav' option, which one has to agree was pretty successful for many years, I sort of think that transitioning to a new system sans Pav was always going to be challenging to say the least.

I reckon Suma would have been thanking his lucky stars we cut him last year so that the current escaped goat as forwards coach (Hale) was not, in fact, him!!

PS. I kept wondering why we seemed to kick it out on the full so regularly on the Northern side of Subi all year - but I've worked it out. The team was still trying to kick it to Pav (but in commentary box now).

I think Anthony Rock position needs also to be reviewed.
Just an embarrassing finish to the second half of the season , with our only win being Gold coast.
I think we all look at the 8 wins , but in reality we fell away badly ( after some injuries).
The question is are we the team in the first half of the year , or the second half?

Yes we had the, "Kick it to Pav" policy for many years, but I recall him being out every now and then, and we'd be fine - largely because we weren't so predictable when he wasn't there. In general our weakness is that under pressure we become predictable, and hence its easy for our opponents to stop us.
Although there is no such thing as confidence, the ability when things aren't going well to stick to your guns and mix the play up a bit is useful.

I'd like to have seen the same players running around through that purple patch also playing in the second half of the season to get a better idea.

Langdon, Blakely, Sandi, Walters, Grey, et al all showed plenty early but weren't there when the hidings were being handed out late.

Add in the inevitable drop off from the youngsters and the wall our older blokes hit from carrying the side so often - I don't think we can really draw a comparison between the two halves of the season.

Other than this first half was far more enjoyable than the second.

Mark Stone- escaped goat. Was earmarked as a gun in similar roles at West Coast and Swans, and I seem to remember his appointment heralded as such at the time. Hard to work out if he was Lyon's get or not as he was appointed 2 weeks after the execution of Harvey, and having previously gone to Sydney when Lyon left there for St Kilda in 2007. Does Stone get the credit when we had Sandi and were good at clearances- not so long ago? Similarilties to Sumich perhaps?
