Matthew Taberner is not very good at playing Australian Rules Football.

So Taberner will be more disappointed than most to see Zac Dawson retire.

You are impossible to please FDB.

Leading contested mark, 2 goals plus goal assists. Could have had 2 more.

Id take Tabs in my side over Brad Hill (aka the turn over king) in my team any day. I thought Hill was ok at Hawks, his disposal is horrible.

Great way to end the season I thought. Tabs showing he should play every week ahead of McCarthy and Kersten (and Ballas benefiting from have a predictable marking target to feed off again, Cox confirming that he rises to the occasion when the chips are down, Ryan a star, Bennell showing what we could have if he stays fit, and a return to the risk-taking that saw us play some good footy earlier in the year.

Taberner has proven again that he is the best option as a marking forward. For crying out loud, just stick with him.

Bummers get 3 quick goals to start the game.
Steve is sweating.
Freo kick 2 goals back to back.
Membership phones start ringing.
Freo kick 5 goals back to back.
Membership phones ringing like crazy.
Ballas kicks a couple, Mundy keeps winning it out of the centre.
Membership phone call madness - total chaos as the bandwagoners get out their credit cards en masse.
Steve beaming ear to ear.
Tabs misses a set shot by about 15 metres.
Phones go quiet - Steve locks himself in his office.

Some observations on today's game from a list management perspective:

Persevere with ...

Tabs - has done enough the past few weeks at AFL level to warrant at least a one year contract.

Ballas - similar to above, will be a handy player to help train the next gen of small forwards (poss including Brandon Matera)

Cox - love his contested marking , but can someone please teach him how to drop a footy onto his boot?? Worth nothing that Cox & Tabs took 7 contested marks between then - the same numbers as the rest of the team!

Collins - hard to see why he hasn't played more games this year, esp. after the shellackings we've had. Showed poise and strength on several occasions. Lots to like about our developing tall backs in Hamling, Collins & A.Pearce (assuming he can get his body right). Signing him should be a priority.

Crozier - Has done enough for another contract but again might end up as trade bait.

Suban - a long time favourite of mine but with 8 tackles today, his 'mongrel' attiitude and new run-with role I'd like to see him retained to provide some protection at the coal face for our developing mids. However, could feature in trade negotiations with our plan to bring in more WA talent from other clubs.

Griffin - take back my comments after last weekend's game. Looked like a man playing for his career today and showed enough to hang onto for another season. Particularly with our lack of seasoned rucks and Sandi's propensity to miss large chunks with injuries.

Excited about see more of....

Harley Bennell - showed on a few occasion his silky skills and evasive attributes. Can't wait for him to be running through the midfield next year.

Ryan, Hughes and other kids - some real talent within our emerging youngsters and another pre-season in their legs and bodies will do them wonders.

Times up...

Sheridan - may well end up a good player - but I don't see it happening with us. Trade him as opposed to delisting like we did with De boer, Mzungu & SCOS.

Sutcliffe - similar to above and whilst he played one of his better games today, his disposal is still his downfall. Trade bait or perhaps retain for depth.

Now can we just make sure we get M.McGovern from Adelaide??!!

Just watching replay, don't know what were the rules int he first quarter and and a half 15-4 at one point. If our forwards received the soft frees others do they would be half a chance.
Liked Taberner though he showed more aggression than I have seen before. Game style stood up when execution allowed it. Hughes has surprised me seems good. Hamling is quality. Collins was serviceable. Ryan will make it. Fyfe continues to build hope he can return to pre season without hiccups. Agree with others with the addition of personnel missing today and a fair shake from umps highly likely to get the chocolates in this contest.

David Mundy...this guy is a star. How strong is he in a tackle? So confident in his ability to shrug a tackle or get a handball away. So deceptively strong and balanced. A champion of Freo!
