TOPIC: Collins

Johnno has been (HAS) been a good loose man down back (way back to AA year). Never been a genuine one on one defender. Johnno is not a tackler, not sure he ever has been. And I am sure he is not quicker that Collins.Time to move on. I liked Collins aggression and strength. Hopefully we will have Hamiling Pearce, Collilns and Logue to choose from next year for our taller defensive options, a good mixture of speed, strength and agility with these guys.

At his best, Johnno's strength was that he out thought his opponents. He knew what was the best position to be in, and he got there. I used to love watching him outnumbered 2 to 1 but somehow come out with the ball, or at least hold it up long enough for the cavalry to arrive. I saw him one Friday morning at a coffee shop in Freo, and he was watching Sydney on his laptop, just studying up for the weekend. It must be frustrating to be Johnno, still knowing what needs to be done, but not being quite fast enough to do it.
Mr Collins may have to forgive me if I'm wrong, but he's no Johnno. You might make a Johnno out of an Alex Pearce. And there's definite promise in Hamling.

As RL said at his presser after the game , they are going to cut hard.
Collins will be one that is gone.

I think Ross was just thinking about his "love child" when he said that.

I preface this by acknowledging that it is no doubt hard to come into AFL when you've been playing WAFL for 15 weeks or so but to me he just looks too slow to go up against the CHFs going around in the league in this day and age. He's big and strong which is great in the contest but he turns like the Queen Mary.

What I thought was interesting yesterday was that when they threw him forward it was Kersten who went back and not Brennan Cox. You get the feeling Cox could go back to CHB and be comfortable and compete well against the best but the club is hoping (like we all are) that he might make a go of it up forward. With some kicking practice he may well be a long term forward option.

Well Cox was an AA U/18 backman, but typical of us in that we will try and make him into a forward. Basically because we didn't recruit any tall forwards and he and Tabener are our only options.

We need put games into players that can dispose of the ball well. Especially coming out of the back line. For this reason I think Collins may be moved on.
