Sean Darcy, Fremantle, has been charged with striking Nick Vlastuin, Richmond, during the second quarter of the Round 22 match between Fremantle and Richmond, played at Domain Stadium on Sunday August 20, 2017.

In summary, he can accept a one-match sanction with an early plea.

Based on the available video evidence and a medical report from the Richmond Football Club, the incident was assessed as intentional conduct with low impact to the head. The incident was classified as a two-match sanction. The player has no applicable record with impacts the penalty. An early plea enables the player to accept a one-match sanction.

Clumsy and regretful, not much in it. A pity.

Just a note to flag how well he has adjusted to AFL, that left-sidedness is really awkward for opposition ruckmen to counter, particularly at boundary thrown-ins, and he should pat himself on the back for standing very tall at the end of the season

Among the doom and gloom, Darcy was a rare bright spot this season. I thought he was a brave draft selection by the club that turned out to be pretty savvy, he's been given a chance at a young age, and really held his own. From his body shape alone you can tell he's put in the work. Plus he was smart enough to get rubbed out for a meaningless final game of the season and spares himself the indignity of another 100 point thrashing.

A lot to like about the kid.

I presume that "intentional" with "high contact" means that it had to be intentionally high. Just argue that the fact that contact was high was "careless".
But of course we won't. Because we believe that just copping stuff from the AFL will earn us brownie points in heaven...

Understanding, as we all do, that the AFL's Match Review Panel is an absolute paragon of integrity and fairness, I'm left in no doubt whatsoever that Darcy's clumsy attempt to spoil clearly demonstrated a more dangerous and thuggish character than Toby Greene did with his Kung-fu kick to Dahlhaus's face in round 21.

It wasn't careless. It's easy to beat the club up on anything after a loss like that, Darcy immediately recognized his mistake.

Top marks for reflexes though, and was I dreaming or did he actually jump fairly highly on occasions in the ruck yesterday? He's a ripper.

He's clearly been working on his jumping but the flow on effect was that he was cooked by half-time instead of three-quarter time.

Cracking first season and will be terrific with another couple of pre-seasons under his belt. Kudos to the young man and whoever backed him in with our second round pick.
