There was a kick by Sam Mitchell in the game against GWS last night. Mitchell kicked it no more than 7 metres, marked by a Weagles teammate. The umpire was right nearby and called a mark. Odd, since the ump was so close that there is no way he would have not seen it was a short kick. But, when you've grown your entire career as someone who is a 'short pass' specialist, like Mitchell has, it's sort of human nature on the part of the umpire to see that it's Mitchell, cognitively know that he doesn't kick it long distances, and in the heat of the moment, just call it a mark and let him get away with it.
