If we played in as many finals series in 30 years as WC have, yes we'd be calling Freo a powerhouse.

It's not about winning the flag every year. It's being in with a chance of doing so. That is a successful club.

Speaking of grandstanding, which you should understand all too well based on your last post - I wasn't using the term sustained success to bash the current coach and players. Merely to point out that that was the marketing slogan and justification used - at the time - to drive membership sales, merchandise, and little things like the jumper change, leaving Fremantle, and butchering the club song after the move to ditch it failed (just).

That board is essentially still there, and whilst you may wish to make that Steve the blame bunny for that comment, the board bought into it and everything that went along with it. And I guarantee that whatever "sustained success" may have meant to them at the time, it didn't include being minor premiers in 2016 and 3rd last to a basket case and a club rocked by drug scandal the year after.

The point was simply in response to the comment about declining crowds which is a real thing, and the declining level of crowd involvement and energy, which is also real. The people who bought into the success idea are leaving. Whether this is a good or bad thing is open to debate. But the general apathy of the crowd - which has been increasingly evident of the last 3-4 years - is cause for concern in my opinion, because this seems ot have infected even the core of people who will probably remain there through thick and thin.

One of the probably many reasons we dislike Meth Coast is due to the fact that they are so smug and condescending. That's of course due to the fact that expect to do better than we do each season and unfortunately they usually do.

I've got a mate who has a carton bet with a bloke he works with each year as to who out of us and them will finish above the other. Over the years his wallet has taken a hammering.

The frustration for me is that this debacle of the last 2 years was avoidable with better planning. It need not have been this bad.
The club just makes bad judgement calls. I believe the club is at times too insular and the board is not fed proper information.
Accountability amongst assistant coaches is absent and I am not sure what kpi's recruiting are on!

It's not about winning the flag. I mean what have the OOFTITS ever done apart from that?

All right, Stan, they have premierships. Don't labour the point. And what have the Eagles ever given us in return?
Xerxes: The aqueduct under Subi oval
Reg: Oh yeah, yeah they gave us that. Yeah. That's true.
Masked Activist: And the sanitation!
Stan: Oh yes... sanitation, Reg, you remember what the oval used to be like before Nic Nat solved that problem? Many more urinals now and the queues are half as long.
Reg: All right, I'll grant you that the aqueduct and the sanitation are two things that the Eagles have done...
Matthias: And the roads...
Reg: (sharply) Well yes obviously the roads... the roads go without saying. They completely redesigned the traffic flow around the oval. But apart from the aqueduct, the sanitation and the roads...
Another Masked Activist: Irrigation...they have reticulated Subi oval
Other Masked Voices: Innovative medicine... Drug Education... Health of players...
Reg: Yes... all right, fair enough...
Activist Near Front: And the wine...remember the Chateau Eagles 1985?
Omnes: Oh yes! True!
Francis: Yeah. That's something we'd really miss if the Eagles left, Reg.
Masked Activist at Back: Public baths and no jocks!
Stan: And it's safe to walk the streets at night now. Simmo has fixed that
Francis: Yes, they certainly know how to keep order...(general nodding)... let's face it, just look them in the eye and ask any dodgy bloke, they're the only ones who could in a place like this.

I think its pronounced 'sustained success' but lately I've been thinking its spelt 's u s t a i n e d' 's u c k a g e'.

Anyway, it may have just been some advertising fluff as Morgan says but considering what it has cost us, I'm happy to hold them to their claims. Oh and that ugurls loving so and so wasn't the only fly in the ointment. There are still a few left.

Forgetting how or why they won their premierships The Slime have only not made the finals 8 times in their history. Hopefully they could make it nine this year.

I would love that sort of rate for Freo.

I don't think many of us like GWS and their free ride into the AFL, but will all put that aside this weekend and look forward to a big win on their behalf.

Sure, anyone selling something would be concerned that no one is buying it. The 'task' for RoLy and the whole footy department was pretty straightforward - kick more goals, score more points. This 'task' supposedly has been the focus of everyone down at Dooker Central for two seasons now. The only improvement I've seen is we're leaking more points at the other end of the ground - we haven't scored any more, we've just conceded more. Any fool would see that's a massive fail.

Last year we heave-ho'd a pile of players to provide an excuse for getting thumped by some record breaking totals. Any fool would think that not too many other fools would tolerate that - and the home crowd numbers attest to that.

Read Blockerhall's post a page or two back, he's spot on.

Yes Shane, but you also like East Fremantle. That's also tough to take for a lot of us.

Polly, once again an astue view on our freefall in the last 18 months. Maybe, just maybe the departures of Pav at one end and AA Luke the other end have something to do with kicking more and letting less goals in. For mind, that's played a big part in what we're able to achieve. And while people might bag our recruting for not planning those departures, had A.Pearce and Apeness not been injury prone, I dare say that the impact of losing Pav and Luke wouldn't have been that dramatic. So the rebuild continues and with a bit of luck the 2 young boys can be a big part of the journey.
