????!!! .... The full article is on the AwFL website...

www.afl.com.au/news/2017-08-09/sell-buy-...ng-this-trade-period

but this bit of 'deep analysis' got me thinking about a number of things.....

" The Dockers are making a massive play for Crows forward Mitch McGovern as they continue to target expat West Australians. West Coast appeared to have the inside running if McGovern decided to come home, given his elder brother Jeremy is an Eagles star, but Fremantle has done its best to get into the conversation. The Dockers have reportedly tabled a five-year deal worth up to $550,000 a season for the forward, which is about $150,000 a year more than the Crows' initial offer. McGovern also has family links to Fremantle, with his father, Andrew, playing 63 games there from 1995-98. Free agents Michael Johnson and Hayden Ballantyne are set to open talks with Freo shortly and are expected to be offered deals for 2018. Ruckman Zac Clarke has recovered well from the knee problems that ruined his 2017 season and fellow free agent Nick Suban has been rejuvenated since earning a senior recall in round 14, but their futures won't be decided until the end of the year. Suban has attracted interest from some Victorian clubs. The Dockers have a host of uncontracted Victorian youngsters: Hayden Crozier, Ed Langdon, Darcy Tucker, Harley Balic, Tom Sheridan and Matt Taberner. Tucker appears likely to stay despite attracting interest from Victorian clubs including North Melbourne, while Crozier and Langdon are also priority re-signings. The homesick Balic appears a strong chance to return home. "

1) They forgot "The Fist"...

2) Ed Langdon has re-signed hasn't he? ....This Bowen kiddie must have got his info of "The Hack"

3) We should be hearing of any retirements imminently...so, who??

4) First I've heard of the apparent fact that Hendrix has made a great recovery ???!! So where the bloody hell is he??!!??? Hes still "TBC" in the injury list and yet apparently was due to be ready 2nd half of the season. Well...there's 3 games to go and he hasn't trotted out for Peel yet !!.....

I wondered about Langden as I've only heard of him nearing a 2yr deal and then mentioned, I think on here, that he'd signed I looked up FFC site and nothing to date. Anyone else heard anything official.

There are several inaccuracies including deal tabled is $750k pa for 5 seasons and that Freo actually are the front runners not the Eagles if he moves from the crows.

Throwing silly money at McGovern is a mistake. He took a great mark a couple of weeks ago but he's no superstar and what is needed is a tall forward not another mid sized one.

So Walba, given that we all agree we need more in the way of tall forwards, who do you suggest we go after either this year or next ?

Realistic options only...please dont go saying Jonathon Patton or some other unobtainable

Whilst Mitch McGovern is not the big hulking forward we need, he has more going for him than either McCarthy or Kersten IMO

As long we don't trade our probable 5 draft pick.....ps:Cox is yet to turn 19 and is a bit taller they seem to be similar maybe we should insist on he .....just a thought

I'd be happy if we took McGovern but not for that price. Throw a bit more money and longer contract at hogan

Eventually Strange article.....! 6 years 8 months ago #8

Eventually
McGovern would be a good speculative investment if it lead to snaring his bro but not for pick 5. A second round draft pick if we could trade one in plus maybe a second year 2nd round draft pick maybe?

Reckon we have a beauty in young Cox and Tabs is only going to get better. Throw in Apeness and maybe a Zac Clarke and really we are pretty well sorted. I think we just need to be astute with our first round draft pick and continue uncovering gems with our 2nd,3rd and 4th picks , our second draft picks and our rookies. Theres lots of WAFL, NEAFL,VFL and SANFL talent out there for the taking in my opinion and we've continually proved it - In fact that seems to be our recruiting teams strength.

I think that Tabs will 'only get better' with another team as he'll likely be delisted in a few weeks and Apeness is going to have overcome his injury issues or he'll likely be delisted before long as well.

Getting more 'short' talls just isn't the answer either.

It's hard to believe you think Taberner could get any better. The last bloke that amazing had his career cut short by Pontius Pilate.

2016 was the first year that the draft was uncompromised. We had pick 4 but ended up with 8 and drafted Logue, who's going to be a great pickup. Using our 1st rounder on Mitch McGov is dumb and paying him anymore than $600K is even dumber. I'm hoping we draft Aaron Noughton from Peel with our first pick. He's an absolute gun for an 18 year old and having Hamling, A. Pearce, Noughton/Logue, Ryan, Weller and Blakely, in a couple of years barring injury, that's looking impressive. By that time, Lobb and Hogan would be busting to come home and wear the purple. McGovern is a good get but he's no Buddy Franklin.

Point 4 is perhaps the larger issue. Zachary Clarke! What do people know about his current status, and where the bloody hell is he??? And....is he on the list next year again???

Raglan Matt
He is setting himself for a big return at the Rhythm and Vines festival. His indicators are the best they have ever been, and he is hoping for a spot in the middle of the crowd.

Oh!... thats a bit disappointing RM.... I thought our rehabilitaion and sports science mob would have got him up to at least the front row, by this stage..... I know participating in the mosh pit would be a step too far, but it makes you wonder what they've been doing all year...?? At least - I guess- I can take comfort that he'll have no problems affording the tickets ....

What a great year he's had!
