You're not wrong RR but I don't think Ibbo has been that player in a long time. In part it may be his age but mostly I believe it's been RL's instruction both in attack of the footy and what to do with it when he gets it. Even in Ryan's interview with Lake after the siren, he was asked if he played so well because of RL's backing to go for the intercept mark.

It's been documented on dockerland previously how much RL disapproves of intercept marking to the point where the whole team is punished at training for going the mark in defence in drills opposed to the spoil. Elvis was never the same player in the air when RL came to power and Dawson's position in the side was assured due to only an ability to spoil.

Ryan stumbling over the question and trying not to say he was going against RL's orders actually pleased me and I hope the rest of the youngsters are following suit and maintain that confidence to back themselves in and take on the game.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Ryan plays on instinct. He's got good footy smarts and should have won the NAB RS nom last week against the Giants. He's our Jeremy McGovern. No coach would instruct their players not to take Marks especially intercepts if there's the opportunity. I think A. Pearce will take some adjustment to get back not having played for a while. But our back 6 tonight was very good and if you put Blakely in place of Pearce, it's looking promising.

Well rogerrocks, I agree with you in regard to Luke playing in a position that sometimes facilitates "easy" possessions (on account of being provided with freedom to take uncontested marks), and that can lead to a player garnering misplaced praise, but I was more referring to his instinctual and aggressive movement of the ball, and his courage in going back with the flight. His kicking efficiency was sublime, and he deliberately opted for aggressive transition of the ball.

Eesy-schmeesy my butt. The kid was one mark off an AFL record in his sixth game. Get stuffed ye naysayers.

There is no easy mark in an AwFL backline, implied pressure is always there. He is a jet and showed it last night. The big thing he has to compliment his marking ( and another skill Ibbo had) is his ability to kick long, accurate and direct from half back, breaking the line ahead of him.

Blakely won't spend much time across half back next year. He is going to be replacing Mundy in the midfield.
