DbtS agree. On the last point maybe that is wiser than shuffling blokes in and out in the hope that something might change. I think Pav probably played at least one year too many but hung around simply to return the faith the club had shown in him and because we didn't have anyone better.
Roly said we are on a (was it) a four year rebuild. That means we cycle through the players till we get the best mix possible. He trains them up. Certain players will be played out of position in that process for good reason – and surely playing a future forward in the backline against the better forwards of today is one way to teach them the tricks of trade. Future insiders or outsiders as run with players or backmen forward ditto.
Making mistakes along the way is how we learn and hopefully we are better for it.
I'm self employed so I get to meet a lot of people. Those who look after me always get a better product. I've noticed how over the years certain ethic background people have more respect than others for their workers. Its a cultural thing. Psychologists tend to be amongst best clients and wealthy people the worst – not always of course but often. Its about respect and I think Roly has that in spades (though that is an outsiders view)– but I'm not surprised he doesn't show excessive respect for many in the media cos they operate in part in a different world – one of sensation sponsors and eyeballs and ears. The media reflect the ugliness of capitalism where respect and sense is less important than dollars and cents

If Roly only changed his game plan/forward structure because the media forced him to I can see how our club can save a bucket of money and reduce the cost of our memberships. Appoint any old hack (not to be confused with The Hack) at $100k per year and use the material from the articles of Duffield, Butler and co with some input from Hardie and Langdon to put the game plan together for the coming week. Who knew it was so simple?

We have been waiting for some changes in the so called game plan for a long time now .

Now that there has been some changes and we became slightly more competitive it seems like it

was a master stroke , supporters have been screaming for some sort of change quite a while .

At last there has been some changes . Yeh . how hard has it been for some of us to see that something had to change .

Free00, everyone could see that something had to change. Its just that most of the changes suggested either (i) won't work, or (ii) won't work. The coach gets paid big bucks because he has to come up with changes that can work, not just now, but over the next few years while the group gels and grows.

If the supporters have seen what is needed ( for a while ) and now has been done to make the team

I'm currently watching the slime play. They have no stay at home forwards. They are all up helping out with the defensive effort. Or they are just outside the defensive 50, providing a marking target when the slime kick out. And when they get the ball, they run like crazy and often end up scoring.
But they don't always play like that. I guess it depends on their opponents.

Its no secret, that's the gameplan for the 18 AFL teams in the league. Adelaide employs the same strategy, this rubbish of stay at home forward is about what you perceived is a forward who stays in the goal square. Most are down helping out in a team defence strategy. If you're a forward and your GPS is not in the low to high teens in Kms, you're back playing in the twos. Just ask Tabener about why he's not getting a game.

If that was true, we could save anywhere between 12 - 15 million a year across the AFL by not bothering to have coaches. Get the captains to do the post match pressers and on to next week.

If only Hawthorn could bomb it in the forward 50 when they have nobody there, we might stand a chance of beating them sometime in the next 5 years but I really don't think so
