I don't really care who does the cobbling. If there's a cobbler's union, my instinct would be to support the way they think the cobbling industry ought to be run.

But at the end of the day, if cobbling is to occur then somebody has to cobble. Can somebody please cobble hard, and cobble often, starting immediately please?

I think you're onto something with uncontested possessions DBTS. That's the main stat that makes me worry our coaching team may be out of ideas. We've had some big uncontested numbers against us this year, tonight was no exception.

Our plan A is to make it a contested ball game and the other teams know that, they patiently work the ball around and pick their way through our structure. We have no idea how to stop it.

For some reason there is a different feeling about watching the game and the results. Years ago I would be upset about the result and wonder what we can do better. These days, Fremantle football is boring, the game style is boring, the players are boring. There is nothing to get excited about. I get home from a game and I really don't care about the result. The whole "product" is rubbish. For the most part, the competition has passed us by and we aint coming back anytime soon.

I have been a member for a long, long time, and as a Freo supporter I'm used to disappointment, week after week. I still care passionately about my team, I care about all the players and I hope that we have a game plan soon that these young, talented players can understand and follow. Surely if we care enough to post on Dockerland, we care about Freo, even after horror experiences like that game.

Maybe Tomic the tank engine had a hand in all this.

Felt like leaving after the first five minutes. Wish I had. Hard to see us winning another game this year. Sigh

Seven goals for the match. Hooray!

The 13th ranked team in the comp kicked six in a quarter.

Even Cobblers need a template or the may as well be making single plugger thongs.

While he wasn't one of the Hawks best, Schoenmakers did some decent cobbling.

It's a tough comp, we've had some good wins and poor losses this year and there's plenty more who've had the same including a the Hawks, Sydney, Adelaide, GWS......we were carp today but take an ice bath.

Not sure if we should be too shocked by what happened.

This has happened basically every match against Hawthorn I can remember, since Roly was on board. Weve now lost the last 10 out of 11 against the Hawks and honestly I dont know how we would have won that one. Even when we were top of the table Rolyball could never really compete with the Hawthorn style. We always get sucked into the ball and the players dont man up - even Logue tonight said "Hawks own the outside" - so apparently we know about it but yet again do nothing to combat it. Zoning doesnt work against a team that doesnt bomb it but back their players to pick zones apart.

The match where Sandi shepearded for Mora who ran down the wing and scored that memorable goal in an Elim final at Subi was the last time I recall us playing Hawks at their own game. And we won that one.

This was the final proof if needed that it isnt the players or youth thats the problem. Hawthorn have just as many and those youngsters turned it over for goals just like ours did. Its their brilliant setup and structure that will 19 times out of 20 always beat our effort based slogathon. There is honestly 100 things we do wrong. 100 one percenters.
Why our forwards cant man up (and I m not talking about zoning 20 m off them ) in the defensive 50 during a kickout when we`ve had ages to do so just beggars belief. If it happens for a quarter you can blame players. If it happens for 3 years youve got to look elsewhere.

Both Hawks and Pies beat us by getting the ball into their defence and then moving it around precisely and confidently. Then wait for an opening and go forward. As Purple Mao and others point out, we have no defence against teams who do that.
Having said that, if we win it out of the middle and don't turn it over, then they don't have the ball, and we are fine. But we have a lot of trouble getting the ball into our 50 without turning it over, and a lot of trouble keeping it in there. Too many quick rebounds where the ball just goes straight back down the ground for a goal.
A lot of this is inexperience. Just choosing the wrong option. Or having 3 players fly and no one on the ground. This is the sort of thing that will improve heaps in the next year.

Many moons ago the outboard blew and my old man had to jump in and push us back to shore. Which was when he stood upon a cobbler. He had pain on and off in that foot for about ten years.
Not sure if there is a metaphor here. My dad sure liked to eat cobbler at every opportunity after that.
I guess sometimes a cobbler is just a fish.
