Too many times we have no-one flying, 3 on the ground and they take an easy mark. That is where the damage is done. Are our forwards not working hard enough to get to the contest? Are they being blocked out of the contest? Solution to the first is simple, get to the contest. Solution to the second is a bit more costly, but would bring it to the attention of all who need to be advised of it, and that is to have a couple of designated "bulldozers" to hit the contests in the forward line. Hard. Put some doubt into the minds of those who think Cammac, Kersten and co are easy to block out of a marking contest.
As far as our forwards not getting to the contest, I see that all through the middle of the ground as well, players guarding space not opponents. Whether through lack of speed, lack of fitness or lack of effort, it is not working. Go back to guarding the player. That is what the poor old last line of defence have to do, why not extrapolate that strategy further up the ground. It worked for us in '13- '15 and then half way through 2015 we went to a "guard the grass" game plan.
