TOPIC: Can we get this straight...??

Maybe Tabs problem is he is staying in the goal square and leading out to running players who kick the ball to him.
This is probably frowned on.

It shouldn't be, B1R1.

With our mids they'd still kick it over his head anyway

Hell will freeze over before this happens, but I cant see for the life of me why he doesnt just plonk Fifi in the goalsquare, and let him go one on one with whoever they are prepared to man up on him.

The bloke that beats Fyfe in the air, won't beat him when its on the ground, and by the time Fyfe has contested the ball, the rest of the team will have streamed forward if Fyfe needs to Peel it off to someone.

He can still have his big open space in the forward half, he can still have maximum players around the ball at all times. If they put 2 back on Fyfe, then he'll actually be + 1 around the ball at all times. Surely this is where RoLy wants to be. ?

Its not that a great leap of the imagination, nor is it messing terribly with his current 'gameplan'. Geelong did it with Dangerflog last week, and all of a sudden it was touted as a "great revelation" that the full forward is back !!

It would make a helluvalot of difference, if, when streaming out of the backline, when the Hills or Tuckers or Wellers looked up, instead of seeing nothing up ahead,... they saw Fyfe. A helluvalot of difference!!!

There is some merit in that Cletus. I wouldn't make Fyfe (not Fifi please) a permanent full forward but playing him forward at times would be a very good tactic to disrupt any defence.

Much as I was suggesting we go taller last week against the slime, the idea of Fype playing directly on either Kennedy or McGovern and Tabs playing on the other, might well have negated their superiority in the air.

Wouldn't do that for every game though

At the risk of getting back on topic, we are only mandated to take 3 in the draft if I'm not mistaken, as opposed to the 5 mentioned. Another question is whether we should do more of course, but with Yarran gone, we are only mandated to get rid of 2 more.

Mitch McGovern would not be a direct swap for Tabener. He's only 191cm and definitely not the pack marking forward we need. He's more Kersten and McCarthy size. In fact he's smaller than a number of midfielders going around today.

So, if Mitch McGovern isn't a replacement for Tabs, where will we find another 2 meter forward to play at Peel?

Take it with a pinch of salt Mellors, but the AwFL website did a draft indicative order as of the end of rd 16.

www.afl.com.au/news/2015-11-16/going-pla...his-biggest-decision

It suggests Freo currently have 5 picks......7, 42, 58, 60 & 78.

Note... none in rd 2, 2 in rd 4.

Now, theres a heck of a lot of horse trading that goes on with these things, and, there is still 6? Rounds to go. But 5 means 5 doesn't it...?
We have the potential to bring 5 in and given the list, we should exercise every opportunity to freshen it up, I reckon?, ....(even though historically we've flicked a few of the latter trades off (as part of trade deals) and just picked 3.)

Back on Tabs. Don't think I'd chuck him in this week as 90% chance of rain. Not too good for talls and then if he fails dropped again defeating his confidence yet again. Wait for a sunny day. Put Cox or Nyhuis down back and throw Jonno forward he isn't doing a lot down back now.

If lets say a late second rounder came our way (and it might), I reckon if you went to Hawthorn and offered that pick for a 27 yo Gunstan (just turned), would you take it? Because given where it all sits for Hawthorn I reckon they would.

Hypen,

What does Gunston offer thats different to McCarthy or Kersten?

Instead of skinny Victorian midfielders, are we wanting to corner the market in not quite tall forwards?

hawthorn will definitely see some changes come end of year. Plenty of 30 yo+ who will be finishing up.

I reckon they will be looking at Gunston as one of their leaders for the next few years.

Can't imagine a low 2nd round pick will get a trade done..

I don't know how we get him, but I reckon Rory Lobbe is the fit.... If you could get Rory Lobbe, Brandon Matera, and maybe Mckenzie then it'd sort a few things out.
And Brisbane have a heck of a lot of tall good young backs...they might be looking for a one or two experienced 'ready made' players

Cletus,

I reckon it would take nuclear weapons to get greater waste of space to let Lobbe go. That and at least 2 first rounders. I'd love him here but then I'd like somebody to give me a large coffee, a carrot cake and 10 million dollars.

Just not gunna happen
