Shane shouldn't have asked the question - now he's got tunnel vision reading everything and Yeti's getting writers cramp. It's irrelevant (in many respects), who is our biggest goal scorer this season? Ok, how can you get him loose to kick more?

Their side is full of turtles, we're quick - I can smell another Derby win coming our way.

Fyfe will be useful forward. And as our young blokes get better their skills will make our forwards and structure look good/better. I don't really watch what goes on in the forward line until the ball is on its way and I doubt that many here do either. Neither do I think stats are that important when judging how good players are as contributors to a side. I do kinda like Tabs but he is too inconsistent and drops too many marks but not all dropped marks are fluffs - I've seen him giving off two handers that resulted in goals. This isn't our best side but maybe in the scheme of things it makes the most sense - maybe.

Bench: Nyhuis, Logue, Crozier, Kersten
If Hamling is not fit on the day then Collins would come in.
All the above bench are swing men - can play back or forward. Logue and Kersten are the 'talls'.

ddd assuming there are no calfs? I'm not sure on Crozier - though I like him. Deluca- or Earl? And while I wouldn't pick Logue I think they will.

Taberner is hopeless in the wet and there is a chance of rain. Would like to have seen Balic come in but it is hard to know who to leave out.
The team and selections look pretty good. The main issue is not playing as stupid as we did last derby. The last few have been depressingly familiar- they get on top early, Kennedy kills it and game over by quarter time. Then our midfield slowly gets on top and we spend he rest of the game kicking it to Mcgovern and Yeo. We just cannot bomb it forward this game. If no one is on offer then kick it low and hard with a chaos ball and at least give our small forwards a chance. If our midfield wins and things go our way we can win but I am worried about the backline.

Tell you what's confusing me. I see the OOFTITS have dropped Wellingham and brought in Masten.

Aren't they the same guy??

Kersten hasn't been a star, but he's come right in and been pretty good from day 1. He's actually won a game or two for us as well in the last minute?

Taberner has had more games and done what? you could say there's not a great deal between them, but Kersten has made an impression, in less games.

Here's some reasons Tabs won't be playing this week, I hope it answers some of the questions posed.

Tabs has had plenty of opportunities in the ones and a long extended stint last season he failed to capitalise on. He's had numerous chances to show something and hasn't yet.

He had a stint of 5 games this season and started off well before quickly proving a liability (albeit with a wet game). However he was playing as a ruckman for a decent portion of those wet games and still failed to have any impact on the play whatsoever, far less than our other KPF's who were starved of the footy forward. Even in the dry and around the footy (rucking) he did nothing to pick up 5, 7 and 8 disposals before being dropped.

As such he needed to go back to the WAFL and knock the door down against much lesser opponents which he also hasn't done (until last weekend). If he can replicate that a few weeks in a row then he gets an opportunity.

He is not at all mobile or agile (why he wasn't much use as a ruckman around the footy) which doesn't play into the sling shot footy RL often tries to employ (catching opposition on the rebound and racing them towards goal with kicks over the top). I don't agree with this forward tactic but Tabs is completely useless at it where as Kersten is a better mover and better disposer (and decision maker).

Tabs is also not the brightest of sparks and often freaks out and makes poor decisions around the footy which hurts him a lot when pushed up the ground into traffic. Kersten again is better with this sort of thing.

Hope this helps.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Mundy and Fyfe will both spend time fwd

Especially with Walters now playing such awesome footy on the ball when he goes in to the middle.

Here is my read on Tabs. I reckon he is done as an AFL footballer. We have been talking about upside and potential for ages. We wear rose coloured glasses for the talls / KPPs on our list because the cupboard is so bare. Time after time, chance after chance, when the pressure goes on he drops the marks he needs to take as a big bloke and goes missing. Some guys get better when game is on line and it heats up some get worse. Tabs is in the second group. So you can provide all the stats and comparisons you want but we have all seen it and so has the match committee.

And just so people don't think I'm targeting him

- Kersten ... jury still out but 1st year at club so will give him benefit of the doubt for now.

- McCarthy ... can play, needs to start leading at the footy and not always looking for the one over the back.

- Apeness ... gone, body can't hold up to AFL (might do a Vardy and be a bit player at another club). I'd move him on.

- Zac D ... gone

- Zac C ... on one leg. At least when he was fit and didn't hurt his knee dancing he was the perfect running foil to Sandi's bulk. Probably gone. Could have been anythjng. Who remembers game v Nth when Pav was out and he destroyed them playing as a Key fwd.

- Alex Pearce ... geez I hope he makes it back. A Jet and modern 2m KPP

- Johno ... jury out. Was dominating but looks tired might be his last year.

- Hamling ... can play

- Collins ... can play and should play ... another one whose confidence they're trashing by not giving him a decent stint in the ones

Also... Kersten is an immaculate kick for goal. He only needs a couple of kicks and it can mean the difference. Give Kersten and Cox more time, dont change a winning team just yet.

I agree totally with Goodie: McCarthy, Tabs, Kersten it makes no difference if we just kick it long straight to McGovern. In a bizarre world I would love that Ballas DID line up at CHF on McGovern. It would then FORCE us to lower our eyes and kick low. Even better would be every delivery scrubbed along the ground - anything to sink it in to the players (coaches) not to bomb it long.

We lost the JLT by 80 odd points, the first derby by 40 odd, Im expecting this to be a whole lot closer.

Taberner is a momentum killer - consistently. MM is right. His card has been marked. He has had plenty of time and now it is time to search elsewhere.

Rhufus,

Kersten is a very average kick for goal. His stats have been posted earlier. He runs about 50-50 but goes missing for mots of a game. He also doesn't have the height or size to compete adequately with McGovern.

It would be stupid to let those 2 go head to head.

It probably going to be somebody who is very good overhead to able to compete and thats likely going to be Fyfe when he goes forward.

Then we will need somebody similar - big, fast, good overhead to compete with Kennedy

From memory when Darling got drafted by the Eagles, there was fireworks everywhere down at Subi. Most at Freo started kicking the cat wondering what could have been. I'm pretty sure in the draft of 2012, which btw included Cammac, Hill, Kersten and Hamling, many thought we blew it by not picking up Kersten. Cammac was picked by GWS at 13 which we then picked up Apeness at 14. Sheedy did a number on us with the Cammac pick after his mate Harvey's episode. But the point is I see Darling and Kersten being similar players. The former has been mauled by his fans of late. So we need to give Kersten more time. And that's what TAB's has had. Kersten might be another Darling but to date and it's been said before he's kicked a couple of winning goals for us in his short cameo.

Crozier hasn't done a great deal as of late, has he? Read in The Worst this morning that he's only kicked 1 goal in the past 6 matches...is he doing enough to keep a spot on the team? I keep thinking that a break out game is just around the corner, but I'm starting to wonder whether that game will ever come...
