....who has been our best indigenous Docker??

I wish I'd thought of this question during the recent NAIDOC week, but ROTV has posted some great footage of Winnie at his best. And, it got me thinking.
We've had some absolutely brilliant indigenous Docker footballers ... they've had us in awe of their brilliance, they've had us excited, they've had us on the edge of our seats. Personally, I am continually amazed at their skills, and I reckon they have all been 'great'.

But who has been our "best"?

Now, the measure of this can be done in different ways...is it the most brilliance?, is it consistency, is it longevity?, ...is it overall contribution.?? And its hard to split all contenders on those measures.

I would argue the current team has some of the 'best' at the moment, and if its not Mikey, then its Steven, )(or maybe it will be Bradley?), and Johnno would not be out of place putting his hand up. But one only has to look at the footage of Winnie, and you can't forget the sheer brilliance of The Wiz, the Majesty of the Prince of Pockets, the courage of Troy Cook, the greatness of Dale Kickett...and, well, the overall consistency of the brilliant Roger Hayden.

Our 'indigenous team' would be some great sort of team, I reckon

So I ask the question, who has been "The Best"?? (... and for what its worth, I'm putting a vote in for Roger).

There is no but.

Mike Walters will go down as our best.

Close second Stephen Hill and First Johnno.

Roger and Winston and Jeff were like Rolls Royces, although didn't play enough for us.

Dale never played better than he did with us.

My best of our guns has to be - Troy Cook, Mr Grover. Never the most talented, but you know they left nothing out there on the field. They bled purple and even played above themselves when wearing the anchor.

Seriously hoping Harley will be on this list by the end of his career.

I was going to comment on that, hypen, but I didn't want to be put on the spot on who to leave out. Also, I expected you to list Stephen Michael, so I let it slide.

If you were picking a player that you wanted to watch every week - Jeff Farmer.
If you were picking a player to make the team win every week - Roger Hayden.

In the time I've been following, Roger was my favourite (you can tell by my nickname). But I've loved Michael Johnson too.

Yeah... hate playing favourites and all that but it's gotta be the Wiz.

He's the only one that actually jumped the fence, took a seat and applauded himself.

Could any other club field an Indigenous team that would even get close to this?
# I know Dion didn't play forward, but he should have.

Yeah, I'm not sure 'they are all great'. Clayton Collard was a spud.

Johnno (currently) the best, although I reckon Son Son will catch him.

Dale Kickett is still my favourite.

Great effort WAL ! ...but Scotty Chisolm gets a gig doesn't he?... and no, no other team could boast an indigenous team like that. Maybe Essendon, but I reckon they'd struggle to fill 22 positions. Both Adelaide could perhaps go close though ...

There's an indigenous players list ...(and games played on the Dockers website). Its quite interesting reading... I did not know Alex Pearce or Brady Grey had that heritage. Nor did I understand Des Headland played that many games for us. He could have played 200+ if they could have got him on the park...

Indigenous players are usually renowned for their sublime skills, reflexes, explosiveness, etc but not their hard, tough gets out of my way approach. Boy, were Dale Kickett and Troy Cook the exception to the rule.

For mine: Grover has to be top three. Played above and beyond on a regular basis and regularly took one for the team. His games against that spud Gehrig were gold.
Koops. Stephen Koops. Some of my favourite memories from football games are watching Koopsy fly for a screamer over which ever idiot decided to sit under the ball that week.
But the Wiz. The Purple Jesus. Never before or since has a player evoked so much joy, anger, pride, defensiveness and laughter from me. Jeff Farmer is a golden piece of football history and I feel very lucky to have seen him take the field.
