TOPIC: Justin Longmuir Medal

I don’t know how many people have ever heard of Tony Pasquale. I’ve never met the bloke, and wouldn’t recognise him in the street, but he’s been the WAFL Ground Coordinator at Subiaco Oval for over 28 years, and AFL Match Day Manager since 1995.
The means he’s been involved in staging every derby match (and all other AFL games) since the start. He might be one of the very few blokes in WA who could be said to have an impartial match-day interest in both clubs.
Since this weekend will be the last Subiaco Oval derby ever, it could be a fitting tribute to all the unknown, unrecognised and generally taken-for-granted back room and ground staff who have worked for years to make match days possible at the wreck that's Subi Oval, if, when we all have to move across town to Colin’s Colosseum, the BOG medal was renamed the “Pasquale Medal”. Just a suggestion.

How about the Farmer- - Crowley Medal.

Just to watch their head explode.

Edit: I think Morgan's description of the Glen Dickhead Medal should just about go post of the year

If we want to go with ruckmen and stick with the Hack's suggestion of home derby medals, we could have:
The 211 Hodor Medal

and the Toilet can go with the Cox Ball Badge.

Slapovich or Cox should go with nicknames too - The Flappy Slappo Medal has a really good ring to it. However, I just like the idea of Fyfe racking up a set of Collector Badges over the next decade: Flappy, Slappo, Voldemort, Chompy, Best-in-show, Corky, Pyro, Emblenuts, Flatline, Divey, Prince Charles, Hookfoot, Fatso, Notacluey. Toilet badges would emphasise the esteem with which they are really held.
Oh, the hilarity.

Maybe honour the Brownlow Medalists?? The Fyfe-Priddis Medal...but a bit hard to do when they are still playing... And...the Cuzzy thingo would have to be addressed.

So .... I can't go the J-Lo concept......but could handle the Sumich Medal, provided we re-instate him immediately and he sorts out the forward line.

Other than that.. A medalist representing the home game is really the only option. Somehow I'd like Sandy to be recognised, but its probably got to be the Pavlich Medal, vs the ..well, ...I dunno? Who's their greatest player?? Worsfold?? Jackovich?, Matera?....Cox...? Steroids & Meth? ...
Pav has played in 34 of them, Cox has played in 27....

Other than that, go for the greatest WA footballer.... Is that Polly Farmer??

Well...thinking about it a bit further....surely its got to recognise "a great figure in Western Australian football", perhaps - given the new stadium and the fact Western Derbies have been going for 20 odd years - someone from more recent times.

Is it "The Cometti Medal" .....??

No one has called / been at more derbies, I'd suggest. And, I'm probably wrong, but he's probably endeared himself to most of WA over that time... ( ....Probably just about to find out that that is everyone but Dockerland...!)

...Just putting it out there..

It just goes to show how poor a choice Glendinning was that you can literally name anyone else associated with Western Australian football and think :'yeah, that's a better idea'.

How great would it be if our President or CEO came out and said: "Ross Glendinning is a great of Western Australian football, and worthy of a medal in his honour - but he doesn't have a meaningful connection with Fremantle football, and on that basis from now on our players won't be accepting the medal for the best player in the Western Derby.

PS: stick it up your jacksie WAFC."

Fun Fact: Longmuir, J never washed his mouthguard. Some called it superstition, others called it gross. I call it the only suitable derby bauble.

Twice a year some bloke gets handed a greenish rank bit of plastic and told it's an honour.

If only we had smellovision.

You've also go the problem that it will see West Coast players busting a gut to win it, to compromise their saliva sample.

Nobody has mentioned Daniel Metropolis. A fine servant of both clubs.

Five players have represented both teams in derbies:
Daniel Metropolis (10 West Coast, 1 Fremantle), Brendon Fewster (4 West Coast, 3 Fremantle), Jarrad Schofield (4 West Coast, 1 Fremantle), Trent Carroll (3 West Coast, 3 Fremantle) and David Hynes (1 West Coast, 1 Fremantle).
Wouldn't really want to name a BOG medal after any of them.

Thanks for all the reactions ... well most of them anyway.
I take comfort from the fact that most respondents agree that Ross Glendinning is not a suitable honoree for the Medal and lets hope someone takes note of that. I can live with a lot of the suggestions, the bottom line of which is that there are now quite suitable alternatives now that Fremantle has attained its adulthood.
While the Hack had the right idea in suggesting that we abandon RG, it's interesting that his alternatives only went as far as goal-kickers - a pretty superficial (and easily researched) approach.
Let's keep putting it out there!

Post of the year Genius.

The Flappy Slappo Medal is a win-win for both clubs.
