Surely that can't be right, I work with a toilet supporter that keeps telling me how hard done by they are.

Why does this keep happening, year after year after year.

It's one of life's great mysteries. Up there with the Bermuda Triangle, Grassy knoll theory and the like.

Or, we can look at it another way. The opposition gets slightly more than one free kick a game than Freo. Not exactly something that should define our current performance.

It's all the momentum-building free kicks & 50m penalties that the maggots DON'T pay to Freo in front of goals that really hurt our results

There has been only one short period when frees consistently went our way for about 6 weeks in a row &the boys played brilliant footy & went most of the season undefeated - that is until the maggots reverted to form & had us out of the finals in straight games with typically momentum-destroying soft frees againt resulting in rediculous goals to the opposition
We would have won GFs in 2013-15 if we got the same "preferential" treatment from maggots that the Hawks, Doggies & Slime get week after week after week after week .....

Well they would be wouldn't they.

thewest.com.au/sport/afl/west-coast-eagl...f-rule-ng-b88529959z

Considering they know where this is going to go in THEIR games. Freo would end any derby with 14 or 15 players.

In response to that post RM.
I am not in favour of a send off at the moment, not enough incidents to justify it. If there is to be a send off rule, then staging needs to be addressed first, and players penalised during game to eliminate it. I was speaking to my mate who plays soccer at state level and he told me that players deliberately stage in the hope of a red card.
A game influenced by a staged red card would be equally unfair to the team disadvantaged as a game influenced by somebody knocked out. As we know some teams have some very good stagers.

But think of all the fun we'd have debating whether a red card was justified or not!

Dear Loyal Supporter
Based on the fact that we get one less free kick a game than our opposition plus the very high likelihood that you, like me, are very biased in how we view games featuring our team, I feel that someone has to make a couple of points that you may not like hearing given the tone of your post.

Firstly, the game wouldn't exist if the umpires didn't stick their necks out week after week. Let's also remember that most started off as junior umps who copped crap from parents (including clowns who insist on only ever referring to them as "maggots") while trying their best. Worst still is that junior players also refer to them as maggots - I wonder where they learn that term?
Secondly, have you ever tried to umpire s game of footy? Could you do better? If so, please improve the standard by taking the plunge. It must be the hardest game in the world to control at ground level.

Sure have your say and highlight that we are hard done by and back it up with some meaningful data rather than personal insults that do nothing to move the discussion forward. I, and my kids, hear way to much trash talk that is aimed at the umpires. I can live with fans highlighting mistakes but the vitriol and bile that is aimed at umps is often over the top. Why would any aspiring umpire bother to cop it.

(As an aside, if the data presented at the beginning of this post had any significant impact on team results, GWS and Richmond would be at the bottom of the ladder not in the top 4)

Well, that's all pretty sound (and everything) but the whole high short/tall sock strutting pre-game 'free dance' gymnastics stuff would surely put off any balanced individual from considering umpiring as a vocation. Similarly, I can't believe that there are actually little tackers aspiring to be parking inspectors, wheel clampers and clerks in the Family Court either.

But there are little tackers out there who love footy and want to be involved but know they can't play at the top level. Why chop them out of umpiring as an option.

If they are any good at it, WTB, get them in there, we need them.
