Neale receives Darcy's tap and handballs to B Hill (who fumbles) Luke Dunstand #7 ends up on top of him. Neale reaches up either to remonstrate or use Dunstand's jumper as leverage to get up. Dunstan from the dominant position slams Neale backwards into the turf. The back of Neale's head takes the impact.

I assumed the two weeks was for the sitter mark he dropped moments before, when on the lead (he wasn't careless when he tackled Gobbling Gilbert, he was angry at himself, and overdid the tackle.)

It was a sling tackle. They are outlawed. Simple. Cop the suspension and move on. It has taken to Round 14 for a Docker player to be suspended this year, and I would argue we aren't targeted by the umpires as some might think. Lets not be so one eyed when it comes to blaming umps all the time.

I'm not worried about the report DOD, although I think 3 weeks reduced to 2 was a bit stiff, I would just like to have seen the club come out and support the young bloke publicly. He's gone through some tough times off the field and is now suffering tough times on the field.
As a club we rarely publicly back our players and i thought this was a chance to give the old "think we'll challenge it but not really do it" routine for the sake of the player and the supporters.
St Kilda's coach managed to do it but not us as per usual.

I'm not a media expert, but I'm not sure giving an eye-gouging incident another cycle in the media is how I'd go about it. Especially if your 'defence' of your player is: "We'll have a chat about that [challenging the ban]. I've spoken to Jimmy and so I know what Jimmy's intent was."

What possible explanation could there be for twice jutting your fingers towards another bloke's eyes?

It just reinforces the culprit was an eye-gouger, and that St Kilda - historic safe space for young men of questionable morals - considers that there are legitimate excuses for gouging another man's eyes.

There's no need to defend McCarthy's character. He mistimed a tackle and hurt a bloke. I don't think anyone thinks less of him for it. Like hypen, I just feel like he can't get anything right at the moment.

Yeah I know Morgan but at no time did he condone it. I realise Roly's one for keeping everything in house. Sometimes I just wish he'd show some emotion and call something out with regards to umpiring, MRP, saying something positive about his players, etc. I'm sick of the laid back bordering on boredom approach.

But I guess that's what I'd do and not everyone is the same.

Corporal, I too wish our coach - our club as a whole - spoke out a bit more about umpiring and unfair treatment we seem to receive. I see every other team speak out, but not us. Case in point:
