Thanks Roly, so good of you. Hardly ever backs his own players publicly but now decides to back one of his ex players who took advantage of one of his young inexperienced current players.

Did he give some support to Logue?

Knobber's an under used and unappreciated word.

I'm laughing on the inside, really.

80% of the coaches in the AFL are of the 'control the things you can control' mindset, and Lyon is one of them (the other 20% is populated mostly by Scotts).

There’s three lessons from the incident: Riewoldt is dodgy, umpires can be suckers, and Griffin needs to pay more attention otherwise he’s going to cost his team. Focussing on one of those is going to help GL become a better player. Lyon was just letting him know which one.

I'd just like Roly to know then, that Alan Richardson is doing a fine job.

How is Richardson doing a good job? St Kilda is in year 5 of a rebuild since Lyon left and still hasn't made the finals. Sure, Richo has only been there for the last 3, but I’m not sure folks around here would be too happy if Lyon didn’t get us back into the finals by 2020.

I've read the sustained criticisms of Ross Lyon, in the media and here on Dockerland, with an open mind and, sometimes, I've wondered where it was coming from. He seemed to be clued up at the MCG in 2012 when Pav kicked 6 and knocked Geelong (2011 premiers) out of the finals. And again the next season, reaching the GF. Top four finish in 2014, then minor premiers in 2015, suggested to me that he was probably the best bloke for the job, whatever others thought.
Until now, because this weird man-crush support for a bloke who's now regarded by lots of footy fans, and a number of commentators, as an over-the-hill cheat, while very publicly tearing strips off one his own young, inexperienced players, is just baffling, and seemingly out of character.
So far, Ross has always backed his players no matter what, and shouldered the blame himself. His stubbornness in this regard was admirable.
But I'm not so sure anymore he is the best bloke for the job, and doubt that many of us would be too surprised to find out that he doesn't always have the wholehearted support of all of the playing group. Maybe the older blokes, but not necessarily the younger guys.

Here on Dockerland he's never had wholehearted support. I'm torn myself. I like winning, but I like attractive footy. And a lot of the time Roly doesn't deliver attractive footy. So when he doesn't deliver "winning", then its pretty well lose-lose. But I've a fair amount of faith in him to deliver success. A couple more years and the current crop will be a tightly knit unit and we'll be winning most of the time.

So Morgan of you're putting Richardson's three years against Roly's three years one side is on the up and the other is going down.

Those laying in to Ross for not publicly backing Griffin Logue over NickRiewoldtGate presumably thoroughy support Luke Beveridge coming out and suggesting that the physical aggression toward Jason Johanissen is cowardly. Like that's going to work....
I like what I see in Griffin Logue. Tall, strong, athletic and a bit of a competitor in the air and on the ground. But I also see a nice kid with zero mongrel. But what would I know? I haven't engaged with him for 6 days a week for the last 9 months.

It was nothing to do with calling out a coward imo Flag. More about making the umpires aware of what was going on and making a point of looking after his player.

I'd rather see that than your coach backing an opposition player over his own, publicly that is.

Ross is not incorrect in his analysis of what happened but I think he could have done something different than back his old mate and roast the new kid.

It's football. Irrational rivalry between groups of people dressed in coloured knitwear shouting at young men who are chasing a ball around a paddock. It's why he gets paid close to 7 figures to do a mid-level managerial job.

It wouldn't hurt him to buy into it every now and then.
