Although today's and last Sunday's results were disappointing from a short-term perspective, our placing seems to merit the development phase the playing group is currently in. Now I know many will say that this next statement is negative and adverse to a winning culture, but I believe that finishing lower on the ladder and securing a forward K.P.P will ultimately bring about greater success in the future. I can see all the makings of an exceptional AFL team, but until this key piece is secured, I can't see the club taking the next step just yet. Feel free to disagree with me.

I find that argument short sighted, not short term. We have 3 very good forwards already. One of them with a year out of football and needing a year in. The lack of forward line potency is due to issue up the ground. Buddy Franklin wouldn't be the answer.

Nope, tanking doesn't work. It's not the NBA where 1-2 high draft picks can turn your fortunes around. It only works in a GWS type scenario where you get the pick of almost all tbe best young talent.

When we made the GF in 2013 it wasn't because we tanked and rebuilt. Go out there to win every week, have a good run with injuries and a few unexpected gems in the draft and we can be back up there again.

I totally agree Purple Mao. I was just stating that perhaps the result of today's game doesn't have to bring about more disappointment and negativity, as firstly we are uncovering a spate of exceptionally talented young footballers, and secondly, these near losses are at least more advantageous from a long-term draft perspective.

Let's go back to 2008, when we started a rebuild, Mark Harvey style. Those crop of players with a lot of mature age and rookie pick ups got us to a GF but it took a coach to extract the most out of not much. Before you shout, Fyfe and Hilly was really the picks that was any good. Mora was unfortunate. Since Roly walked in the door and especially in the last 2 -3 years, our stockpile has been impressive. I still say that Bennell is the X-factor. The list of names I've witnessed in the last 2-3 years that were drafted are good gets. We've got a KPP or 2 in our stable. And a ruckman whose talent is nothing I've seen in the past. I've got no doubt we'll get to the summit again and soon.
