Not sure why Drubbing thinks that people who at least get satisfaction from watching half decent youngsters playing well qualifies you are as a Donald Trump supporter, but these are challenging and frustrating times I accept.

There was a disconnect out there yesterday that is reserved for the very worst teams; a lack of composure that brought me back to the Drum days. A thing that might happen when you have a coach screaming down your throat and telling you to go in harder and not be soft was on display. I feel like Fremantle teams under Lyon even when we win somewhat spin the wheels. We try harder than we need to: spoil marks when we don't need to, go for ground balls when we don't need to, get sucked into the contest when we don't need to.......

I am not sick of the losing, its not a big thing for me. But it's hard to support something you find stupid.

Jezza,

Can't agree with any of that. All of that IS Roly''s doing. ALL OF IT.

Roly teaches effort. He has never addressed our skills deficiencies in his entire time at Freo. He selects the players with those skill deficiencies. If you cannot hold the coach responsible for you know, coachy things like basic skills, what do you hold him responsible for?

If he isn't responsible for things like skills, game plan, forward structure or lack thereof, then he's getting money under false pretences because we clearly have no need to pay a million a year to bloke who is responsible for after game pressers.

Sod him off and I'll do them for 200k and give the difference to Fyfe's new contract.

I'll tell you this for free, his game plan - kicking it backwards to our defensive 50, no forward structure, missed development on younger players, lack of attention to basic football skills like kicking to a target 30 meters away, handballing to a target 5 meters away and decision making are all down to the coach. ALL.

Our first game this year should have given you all the clues you needed. Geelong got their first 3 goals from 0 count them 0 forward 50m entries. Why? Well we won all three clearances went backwards every time and turned it over in their forward 50. They didn't need to make any forward 50 entries, they just needed us to do it for them.

You didn't learn from that and neither did our genius coach. Guess what? That was what cost us the game again yesterday. Maggots aside, we handed that game to St Kilda. Lucky they're s*** side or it would have been a 10 goal loss.

We are not rebuilding. We are playing kids because we are forced to and they are outperforming are older players because they haven't had the football trained out of them like most have.

Yes, thats the coach as well. The game has gone past him and he's having a rebuild to cover his lack of clue.

Well said drubbing et al. Exactly right.

Roly has coached any excitement out of the team. Even during our best years we were terrible to watch.

I don't know if any of you watched the Geelong v GWS game, but it was an excellent example of what AwFL coaching should be. Geelong had a number of players out, brought in a bunch of newbies and bit-players, but played a different structure that they normally would've. They approached the game differently and came close to winning a game they shouldn't have won. The different 'look' (or structure if you will) seemed to be aimed at stopping GWS' ball movement through the middle, but taking advantage of their own space along the inner wings. It worked a treat - GWS were constipated for much of the game, Geelong took their moments and scored without bombing it in to the Tommohawk. GWS were able to counter in the 4th largely through Cameron's movement of players around the flanks and the half backs.

That was an example of coaching - both pre game strategy (Scott's) and in game modification (Cameron's). In all honesty, that is what you would expect. Sure, Scott's plan could've failed, but I would imagine they had a plan B and were also able to modify on the fly.

I don't see that at our games - I haven't for well over a year. Yesterday it was akin to chaos at times. There were some obvious additions (i.e. Hughes drifting towards the centre of the ground for a mark coming out of our defensive goal square) but these were just minor details.

Drubbing is right, of course - as a supporter, how can you not watch it (unfortunately). You're kind of stuck there waiting for someone to do something about it.

I've said it before Polly, and I'll say it again. All our problems stem from the lack of urgency in getting the ball moving out of our backline, we hold it up too long almost all the time. The times we rush the ball out we generally go end to end, so why don't we do it more often? Is it the game plan and coach, or the players fault?? Sure there are times when you need to hold things up, but we have the ratios round the wrong way.

And as for this stuff about no-one to kick to up forward, I don't see us as any different to the rest of the teams in the comp. We looked good yesterday when Ballas ran hard to the wing to present for our outlet kick, why don't a few more do that? Is that the coach or players, and is that where the "rift " between Ballas and the coaches comes from?

I'll defend Roly a bit. Firstly we've been beaten by teams who kick it around in their backline in exactly the way that lots of people here hate. Yes we don't do it very well, and we need to address that. But if there was one thing that I admired in the Doggies last year it was that they almost never "kicked and hoped" when trying to clear from their defensive 50. No matter how much pressure, they looked to get it to someone who was in position to give a good pass.

Secondly, when it comes to tweaking your game plan, it assumes you have you basic solid core of your team there. We don't yet. We are still working at it. And we will be all this year, and at least part of next. When we do have that in place, then you can tweak it.

The only thing I give to Ross is that he's a lonely man because Bond and his coaching staff are worth nothing

Putting someone remotely near the goals is not tweaking.

I always find the last minute in a game thats less than a kick difference to be revealing. The side behind throws numbers forward in a bid to score...why not the other 79 minutes?

I'm trying to recall some of the comments during our run of 6 wins in 7 games and I'm sure talk of game plan or lack of it never surfaced. If it did I must've glossed over it. There's commentary that had we somehow have won the last 2 games and perhaps we should've, would Roly's game plan or lack of it be questioned. The changes we made in 2008 was huge and there's a lot of similarities in 2017. Surely that alone plays a part in how the team gels and execute plans. I'm no expert but I reckon Roly is the best man for the job but some give him zero credit.

We were on the slide after the GF. We are now playing kids who have nearly got us eight wins ....what's not to like.

For those who want or must have weekly glory I suggest a place of ill repute will help no end.

Credit for what? He's burned out a heap of players during Rolyball to a GF where we choked badly.

His record since then has been one of under performing. We were the least convincing minor premiers in recent history, falling over the line in most games after a winning streak, and bundled out of the finals, despite hosting them both at home.

I give him full credit for that. Yet some are lining up to perpetuate the myth the bloke is a coaching heavyweight. He's a dud with a limited skill set and a safe contract.

Who do you reckon, Drubs, is currently the best coach in the AFL. For what it's worth, I reckon Longmire is currently holding that mantle. What do you think of his coaching credentials? I value your opinion on this occasion.
