TOPIC: Spurr

As much as I have loved watching him play, and Sat was his best game for the year, at 30 he is not playing at his best anymore or consistent enough this year. Tough call, but he should make way for some of the kiddies and get them playing together.

Yep, agree, but don't think Spurr will make way for anyone soon. He should but they won't do it. Nyhuis beat Liam Ryan in last year's GF hands down. He will be a good in...definitely for Sheridan.

DMus Collins might be a bit slow

Collins slow ? A player doesn't learn "slow" so if that's the case why was he drafted ? He is a potential key position defender and if they've given up on the season they should be playing him.

If anyone hammers Spurr and his value to the team, keep in mind that the half-back similar in size to Spurr is Sutcliffe who may be an heir apparent.

Sutcliffe is not as slow as Spurr but still pretty slow. We can't assume him to be Spurr's eventual replacement. What about Duman...what about Ubergang, what about Nyhuis? All must surely have more upside than Spurry at this time?

I like Spurr and always have. I reckon he is consistently about the 10th best in the team. He is never the best but likewise never the worst. He is also one of the toughest

Every team needs some solid consistent players and Spurr is one of ours.

I don't get the constant bagging of Spurr. He's no superstar, but he is a great contributor every week. Our backline would be worse off without him.

Spurr - he's great value.

He's a heart and soul player and definitely needed by the team. His greatest fault at the moment is that he tries too hard. He's flying in the pack when he's maybe needed to stay down. He's taking more kicks than he normally does when he's definitely not a great kick. He's spending more time on the field than he used to. This is all because we have a lot of new ones in defense and from week to week it changes. As the likes of Ryan, Logue and Hughes start having more games we'll see Spurr going back to doing what he does best and that is shutting down the best small forward.
All three of the young ones had their best games on Sunday and seem to be developing fast. Spurr is definitely a leader and highly valued by the team. I hated seeing De Boer, Silvagni, Barlow go but I can see how the decisions were made. We now need a few of those type players to stay in the team.
