Yes. But for clarification:
If you don't have prior opportunity, hold onto it for grim death. If it comes out, it might be incorrect disposal (but it might not, depending on the alignment of Mercury and Jupiter).
If you dispose of it illegally, then you are gone, unless you play your "jarred out in the tackle" card. Not all players are given these cards. I'm pretty sure Nick Suban has never seen one.
If you have prior opportunity, you will be given a certain amount of time to legally dispose of the ball (or to allow the ball to be jarred free). The amount of time is determined by a complex formula give to the AFL in secret each Thursday by the Melbourne newspapers. While all who see the formula are sworn to secrecy, rumours suggest that some umpires don't follow the formula, but just make it all up on the spot.
Which brings us to prior opportunity. Again, the amount of time that constitutes "prior opportunity" is a closely guarded secret. For some its a fraction of a second, while for others its a fend off, followed by a 720 degree rotation in the tackle. Fyfe's "prior opportunity" criteria mysteriously changed half way through the 2015 season. Judd's was always ridiculously high. The whole Hawthorn football team did rather well in this regard for some years.
