TOPIC: Early Onset Dementia

I'm concerned about Ross. In media interviews lately he's been showing some disturbing lapses in concentration. First not knowing what a litmus test was, then the other day on TV when asked about Ballas, saying he doesn't know what "make or break" means.

Yesterday's article on the Freo website was even more troubling: when he asked himself whether fatigue was a factor in our drop-off the last three games, and then answering his own question with "I'm not sure". The signs are there..

I think he spins the chocolate wheel before every interview and decides whether to be surly, dismissive, vague, jovial or abusive.

Does anyone know -(ie have links with ex players /playing group) if what RoLy is like that behind closed doors??. ie what he presents in prezzers and interviews...is he like that in reality??
I mean, they all just belt out cliches and are generally as evasive, non-commital, and deflectionary as possible, - and RoLy's an expert at that - but when it gets down to reality, is he a different kettle of fish, or the same.??
I worry because a lot of the time you hear commentators say "well, isn't the honestly from Ross Lyon just great, and "what you see is what you get".
If that is the case, then I could see Ross's 'message' wearing out pretty quickly with a playing group, and ...well,... I've suspected that for a while now......

I think you guys need to let it go and move on.

At the end of the day, there's a lot of water under the bridge. We take away from that.

I don't think so.

If you've ever had a manager that you didn't report directly to, but who constantly wanted to stick their noses in your business sometimes harmlessly other times more politically or poisonously? I know from my experience there are times where people will handle them graciously and with good humour, while at other times you'll be maybe more sarcastic or narky or dismissive undertones, often depending on how your day has gone or exactly how much respect you really think they deserve. I could imagine that's how the press seems to coaches who have been around for a while.

Yeah, certainly, Guy. We're under no illusions that that's the case going forward.

Pav loves him, Lukey Mac loves him, Riewoldt loves him, Dal Santo loves him, Hayes loves him, Montagna loves him and Goddard loves him.
Its got to say something.
The only bad words Ive heard are from blokes that he has delisted...
In Pavs own words he was the coach he was waiting his whole career for

You have to be a little crazy or off beat to be a good AFL coach. In fact to be an AFL coach full stop. All successful coaches are a degree eccentric. Note the Don Pyke 'stare' for example.

I should add there is a fine line between madness and genius.

Roly has had over a decade of dealing with the media. Other then Clarkson, he's pretty experienced in that caper. The superstars in Pav et al surely speaks volumes of Roly as a coach and a people person. I remember Brendon Goddard stating that the players would run through brick walls for the man. Furthermore he's extremely protective of his players and the ones he's had to let go really does affect him.
