TOPIC: Something To Look Forward To?

Pretty Simple isnt it DBTS.....??
The Reward for being picked in the State of Origin team is $50 000 for the player, $50 000 for the Club. (or something liker that). You'd get plenty of clubs making players available, and plenty of players putting their hands up. $4.4 mill cost all up.
Its not like they haven't got a few billion to fritter away, given they'd consider a stupid meaningless made up game. Don't tell me they wouldn't recoup the cost in sponsorship or television rights, or bums on seats.
the logistics of how and when are the larger issues...but ARL seems to get over all that...

Nailed it Morgan. Create a version of the gane with smaller teams and shorter times, generate some interest, then run it at grass roots level like basketball - small team in, play, out. Time poor parents dream, and creates more participation.

Very rarely do I agree with the views of Duffield, but I do on this.

thewest.com.au/sport/afl/mark-duffield-o...fix-it-ng-b88517072z

The AwFL is so busy trying to be the innovator and world leader in sport that it is going to ruin our great game. This concept is not footy, and never will be. All the shortened versions of other sports are able to be done because these sports are structured, and with the exception of basketball, have an offside rule. Maybe the big bosses of the AwFL should apply for jobs at the NRL, ARU, Netball Australia and NBL, and leave governing of footy to people who want to keep footy as footy, not some bastard hybrid of netball, bball and the rugby codes with yankee $ corruption thrown in.

Duffield's point about using the money to build the lower grades could not be more timely.

I remember when George Grljusich said there was talk of 20 20 cricket coming out of England.
No one could have guessed where that led.

Cricket was practically begging to be hybridised. The test game was dull and dying. A one day game made it interesting. 20-20 made it a game people could actually watch from start to finish. It's made cricket a more intense, attacking game, but the core elements remain.

Whatever the AFL are cooking up, it won't be football. It's just another mad marketing scheme to sell tickets for something.

They can't even fix the self-created issues they have with a 100+ year old game, and they want to create another one - which will inevitably give them stupid ideas to bugger around with the rules even more.
