One part of me says the AFL is nobbut a marketing machine that would pimp out the game to Snoop Dogs's entourage if the price was right.

The other says a Big Bash version of AFL with one ump might be worth a look. Knowing our luck that ump would be Dalgleish. Or Fisher. Or Stevic. Or Chamberlain...

They can't get the game we pay them to manage right, so they throw their toys out of the pram and make even more new rules.

Look a bear just ran past luke shuey.

People who want to see players not good enough for finals nor important enough to be able to risk an offseason injury play for small amounts of cash for an hour?

It won't work because it's a stupid idea - confirmed with Max the Dope picked out as the spruiker for the concept. But (no doubt) it was probably arranged within the new playing agreement and, no doubt, a result of the success of Rumbleball during the summer months (AwFL Women's footy).

Better Homes and Gardens Spring Planting Special or AwFL - X? Now there's a tough choice.

You can see it now. "OK guys, we haven't made the finals, but the following players have been chosen by our marketing department to miss mad Monday and the end of season trip..."

Announced just after the players' pay deal has been done and dusted. Timing is everything.

The AFL refuses to look at state of origin and yet will consider this. I was discussing with a mate recently whether some sort of all stars game would be viable if the AFL was willing to provide healthy endorsements to players to participate.
I would prefer to see one game of genuine football watching the best of the best go up against each other.

It's about participation.

Many players, including myself, play footy until the end of high school or early uni, but then participation drops off steeply. It's much easier to play sports like basketball or 5-a-side soccer on a weeknight evening with a few mates, than set aside a day on the weekend (plus two nights of training during the week) to play organised footy.

The AFL has tried a few things like AFL 9s, but they haven’t taken off. I reckon this is their next attempt, and they’ve figured out you won’t get people playing unless you are exposed to the form of the game in some capacity. Hence shoving it down our throats in September.

Watching it will probably be rubbish, but a short version of the game to play is a good idea.
