I thought he was way off again. He's fallen into the trap of thinking that last year is the foundation they're building on.

Last year was disgraceful. It wasn't that the team lacked talent it was that the club failed to achieve a basic level of competence. In a normal world, people would have lost there jobs and/or been driven into the ocean for what they produced. But instead they made up a bit of a story about rebuilding to make everyone feel better. Then they went and recruited four AFL ready players to slot straight into the team. Put two and two together Duffield.

I consider 6 out of 10 wins would be a competent end to the season. There's no reason on paper Fremantle can't achieve competence. The young blokes who are getting a game will develop a lot faster if they're part of a well prepared, competent football team.

I think where your theory fall down is expecting a competent well prepared team.

Lyon only got back on the tools after being told to show up more often than the game day phone bashathon in coaches box. Maybe what we're seeing is because he can't or won't attempt to coach the game the way it's being played these days.

R3 on thing were on the improve, and now they're right back there again. It's baffling, when there is clearly ability in the team.

I don't see how playing a couple more young blokes sorts any of that out, which was the alternative option he presented.

The fact that Darcy and Deluca aren't playing, Cox and Ryan were 6 weeks late in getting picked, Logues been left out too long is disappointing.

The backline needs to be re built around Hamling. Because maybe it can achieve a level of competence with sound coaching but I guarantee you the way football gets played today it wont achieve a top 6 finish.

Put them all in, let them fail together and let them go for it. They might surprise and so what if they dont?

Perhaps that's exactly what Lyon did in R3 - thinking they've nothing to lose. Then they started winning and he goes all conservative again, wanting to micro manage wins?

Lyon is the epitome of conservative. Seems to me he's built his name around shutting down and managing opposition teams, instead of letting players play. Today's game won't allow him to do the former and he can't coach a team doing the latter.

'Fraid I cant see where Duffields article is wrong?? He identifies we had a crap year in '16...and its hard to get a line/trend out of '17 thus far. Its partly a rebuild, but partly not. He identifies that old blokes were/are kept in, and not all the young blokes available have played much. If it is a rebuild, well....bloody well rebuild and throw the young fellows - the future of the club into the frypan, and see how they turn out.
We cant be 'half in' or "half out" on this. And yet, at the half way point, thats exacty where we are at.
The blokes who are no use going forward, (Suban, Sheridan, sutcliffe, d. Pearce, Griffen, and probably Zac Clarke) shouldntplay again this year, and everyone that is the future should play. And be prepared that Johnno - and maybe Mundy -might not make the end of the year. Both look tired, Johnno is looking slow.
Dont care if we get flogged. Happy to call it tanking. Happy to call it a rebuild. Happy to end up near the bottom provided we do it for the right reasons (unlike 2016)
Just do it, and as Duffield says, "Walk the walk"...we seem happy enough to have "talked the talk"

Duffield should be done for plaigerism. He has cut and pasted from any of about 20 threads on Dockerland over the last 12 months. None of that is his work, and his commission for that should be going to our Christmas fund.

I can't understand with McCarthy as our best 'big' power forward and Hamling as our only instinctive quality powers back why we aren't doing better. A Fox truck full of Selleys products wouldn't cover the gaps we have in the forward and backline and ruck stocks.
