TOPIC: Mid year report card

If all the players just did the job they are paid to do each week that'd help the situation also. We win six in row and then lose three with 211 out and Griff having hardly any impact and all of the sudden the coach doesn't know what he's doing, you can run with that script. I'll give it a bit more time before I write Roly off.

I'm not writing him off, I'm pointing out that he's under performing.

I suppose where we differ is that, after he self described his effort in the 2015/16 pre-season as negligent, I think the onus is on him to show something rather than be given the benefit of the doubt. The team has looked under prepared for most games this season and they've looked disorganised in many. He needs to do a better job.

He had no choice but to come out and claim responsibility for last years poor performance. He is the head coach ultimately his job is to present a team to win games of football. There are probably multiple different reasons we are poor at the moment, ranging from players, recruiting, player management, assistant coaches, administration etc. Would it be better if he came out and blasted publicly every person who has had a failure in their role. Might make us as supporters feel better for a week or two, but probably not help working with those people going forward.
I have always thought it is admirable when people take responsibility for where they can improve. Unfortunately it more often is used to critique.
Like the players he accepts very good money to absorb this pressure. A lot of players are due their fair share and not just the escaped goats.

Admitting culpability for things you are responsible for doesn't remove your responsibility for those things. He wasted an entire season by not preparing his team properly. Having the players prepared is the absolute minimum the coach needs to be doing.

Brad Hardie agrees, so it must be right.

If the well is dry on player goodwill toward Roly there'll be more seasick days for supporters ahead.

There are many teams and coaches who are on a roller coaster during the season, we are just st one of them due to many reasons.

Looking forward to seeing how it all plays out.

Nothing escapes the fact that we should have beaten an average Collingwood at home and a terrible Brisbane away. We would then have been 8&4 and looking good for a finals berth instead of 6&6 wondering where our next win is likely to come from and out of finals contention.

Why the angst? We're not a finals side. To make finals would only hide all the cracks that need digging out and filling, not papering over with short term 'success'.

True Drub. I guess it was a false dawn and a crazy belief that we were in the eight with a chance.

You know that glimmer of hope us long suffering Freo supporters grasp at.

Too many people assess footy clubs on a weekly or fortnightly cycle. It's Mark Robinsonesque. A month ago Nathan Buckley was getting sacked and Sydney and Gild Coast weren't going to play finals. Sure we probably should have beaten Collingwood and Brisbane but we got lucky against North, Richmond and Melbourne.

We're an 8 - 14 team and that's how we're playing.

we played some good footy and some rubbish to the half way. We can do the same in the last half. I still think we have a chance of making the finals or at the very least unearthing more good players and getting game time into a few more deserving types. Anything can happen with a bit of luck. If we are playing well at the end of the year all will be forgiven and you'll be looking forward to a seat in the new park.

I dont think we should be winning every match. Dont know many Dockers supporters who are that one eyed.
But certainly, with some improved coaching, we could have easily won the matches against the Pies and the Lions. Even with the rain, poor disposals, dropped marks, 6 day breaks, poor umps etc etc.I dont really buy the theory that you cant practice a proper game plan without the personel. You might not pull it off without talent but we should be able to identify what they are trying to do.
Roger Rocks you said that lack of tackling is indicative of lack of effort not necessarily poor coaching. I dont really believe that either. Poor coaching leads to misdirection of effort, which is what the Dockers are guilty of. At the end of matches they come off having expended as much effort as the more successful opposition. Most of it wasted.

I think we should put together a Dockerlander Coaches panel to replace Roly if he doesnt start to do the basics properly. I will start by nominating Cletus for game day strategy, Bizkit in Recruitment and Trading and Hypen can do the betting odds for each match. Roger Rocks could do half time motivational speech to improve effort.

It is not so bad losing at times but to get absolutely efin hammered when we do lose is upsetting .

We need to be competitive after winning some close games and there should be a plan B if it starts going so bad .

There doesn't appear to be any thing he does to solve it . Nothing that appears to work anyway .
