Rufus that summary is spot on as our defenders cant win a one on one contest as they have become use to always playing in a 7 man defence which is Lyons game plan
Forwards dont lead up to the ball carrier ,surely again has to be Lyons coaching style(or is it the forwards coach Hale?)
Tackle pressure is zero, did anyone notice Sheridan in the second quarter just jogging along behind McCullage, he gave up the chase and they scored a goal( i thought Lyon said he was bac in the team because of leg speed?)
We only have one defender who is an old time backman and can beat his forward or at least make a real contest and that is Nyhuis, so get him in
The other player who is a real competitor is Deluca (interesting that both are rookies so what does that say about the type of player that the coaches value)

No current team in the AFL play man on man footy. That game style went out a long time ago. Teams like GWS, Adelaide and Geelong, have elite skills and a structure that destroys their opposition. These teams have been built over 5 years with GWS gifted some extraordinary talent. In 2012 when Roly waltzed in, he was bagged for his game plan. After Rd 12, we were 6-6. That's where we are currently with only a handful of those players left from 2012. There are players like A. Pearce, 2x Harley's and Ballas whom we liked to be playing. Our depth are being tested and that's good for the future.

What I've noticed over a few weeks now is how much space our opposition seems to have at their half-forward. It seems like our zone is too wide and sparse at half-back. Mids aren't pushing back hard enough and covering tight enough when we lose the stoppage.
The result is seeing the opposition waltz into 50 for a long goal or having oodles of space and time to deliver lace-out to forwards.

SOX, thats because we're cooked.There's no juice in the tank. Especially the last month when we beat Carlton (wet), Adelaide (torrential), Pies (heatwave) and Bris (wet). The legs are erroded away. We're a no excuses club but this time of the year, the conditions play a big part .

Agree with you Jezza. Also, Brisbane were coming off a 13 day break, compared to Freo's 6 day break and long flight.

The stats will show that if you're the traveling team coming off a 6 day break, you'll lose. The bye teams have all the advantage. But like I said we're a no excuses club, though this loss was inevitable. It's no coincidence that Sandi was left out of the team since our win against the Blues. At 33, he would have played his last game, i feel after the Crows lost.

The corresponding game 12 months ago, we beat them by 80pts in Brisbane. We had just come off our first win against Port at home. We were 1-10 at that stage. I guess Brisbane never got over that until yesterday.

Brisbane are a rabble who had a weeks extra rest.

We might have still lost considering the month we've had, but we should have looked like we were in the game. Even the pundits are wondering how Brisbane were allowed to stroll the ball through the middle as easily as they did.

That win was inevitable!!!!

A 10 goal loss to a team that has won one game all year was inevitable. A team who are bottom of the ladder vs a team in the top eight. A team who kicked 18 goals in wet, greasy conditions was inevitable.

You can't be cooked in the first 30 seconds of the game, you have to actually do something to get tired. We were belted from the first ball up and our systems were either non-existent or incredibly poor. I don't buy that we were too tired from previous games or travel when our last quarter was the one we were belted in the least.

What was the point of taking 2 retired hawthorn players Hale & Guerra as assistant coaches, unless it was to learn how to pinpoint pass by foot, and take more marks? Its very hard to be successful swapping codes Jarryd Hanes move from NRL to NFL was a complete flop.
