TOPIC: Stick with it, Please!

In the last quarter RL switched things around and had Crozier off half back again. He was great and provided a great physical attack on the ball and man but more importantly, speed and skill coming out of defence. He and Weller rebounding out of defence and using their pace to both attack and defend will be fantastic for us and allow RL to maintain the slower Spurr down back.

The problem is it may leave us short on for small forwards but with Son Son, Grey as the defensive forward and the resting mids rotating through there like the Hill's and Neale, we should be fine. Give it a go RL.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Bizkit, would you consider Grey down back as a pocket player? Hes fast, aggressive and competitive and I reckon hes one guy who might be able to keep up with an Eddie or Cyril.

Here's a fast player to play down back - Griffin Logue.

With his rowing background Logue would have been handy in Adelaide

Logue would have been the only bloke not to embarrass the rowing coach

Personally I think the guys who can stand on peoples heads and kick well are best served in front of goal.

Crozier and Weller play out of position due to the inadequacies of Sutcliffe, Spurr and Ibbotson.

Hopefully Johnson can play for another twelve years.

That extra potency coming out of the backline is a really is a great way to maximise the sort of multi-pronged attack that we have. The only problem at the moment is who would you replace him with? Crozier is providing a reasonable amount of goals.

The more obvious younger candidates to bring into the side are all primarily defenders. If they are going to keep Danyle Pearce in the side then I still reckon the small forward role would be something worth giving him a run at. Most of the more likely options are at least a few weeks away, if at all list.

The whole multi-option set structure careful/controlled exit out of the goal square system is baloney. Torp straight up the middle and you've got a 50/50 chance of taking possession on the edge of the centre square. Forget the wings, long ball straight up the middle - that'll move the opposition press outside your defensive 50.

Instead of sticking with it, stick it up their clacker.

Danyle Pearce as a small forward never occurred to me. It's not the silliest thing I've ever heard...

D Pearce is over 30 and taking the spot of a younger player. Grey may be our defensive forward at the moment but I daresay he was never a defensive forward in all his junior days. The point being that just because a player is playing or being groomed for a certain position at Peel doesn't necessarily mean they cannot play wherever. In fact that is what we want, players who can swap from back to mid to forward. Why couldn't Collins play as a forward? He is big, aggressive and a good mark and kick. The point is, why can't these young players playing at Peel adapt to whichever position? Dawson himself has played forward at Peel...if he can adapt and play his role, why can't everyone else?

Interesting Bevridge has at times this year dropped 8 of his starting 22 from last years premiership team.
Not sure RL would have the man management to do that , other than quickly dropping young players to teach them a lesson ie Connor blakley. Maybe we dont have the depth.

My point being contingent on if they’re going to stick with Danyle Pearce and they want someone to warm the seat, then the small deep-ish forward would probably suit him. I’d imagine at some point they think Ballantyne and/or Bennell will be slotting into that forward line, of course getting the young ones in there may give more options. It may be better they try that at Peel first though.

As for Collins, he has played forward, at Box Hill at the very least if not at Peel, but I’m not sure the forward line could take playing four talls down there. Particularly given Collins reputed slower pace. Apparently Brennan Cox played forward years before his draft year, but did describe feeling much more at home in the backline, that could change of course.

Grey, Crozier, Sutcliffe, Sheridan, Weller and Langdon were all I'm pretty sure recruited as midfielders but have hardly spent any time there, instead we've tried to make them into backmen or defensive forwards with varying degrees of success.
