My only lighter side of that game was my 10yo getting up and coming over to me and saying in a matter of fact voice, " Dad, I'm glad Ibbotson isnt playing for our team! Our coach would have got really cross at everyone for the way he was kicking it to the other team," Then my 7 yo daughter pipes up with, " Lucky he wasn't on your Team cause Dad would have been really mad yelling loudly and everyone would be staring at us"

Having lost two games by a total of 189 points, of course the Dockers deserve to be rated as contenders. Perhaps when they can win two games by that sort of margin they might be taken seriously.

On Ibbo, he's been a great servant of the club who deserves the opportunity to turn it around.

Also, he is married to Ben Cousins' sister, so we need to keep on his good side because there's a fair chance his kids will be able to play a bit.

Hasn't Ibbo had the whole year to turn things around, Morgan?

Regarding expectations, the Dockers has already exceeded mine, so I'm happy to ride along with whatever the rest of the season holds...

Quiexo, we know what Ibbo is capable of, and he was in the AA Squad two years ago. He’s never struck me as a creative player or a quick-thinker, so it has always seemed to me that when he is confident and doesn’t second-guess himself, he’s a much better player. Those early Lyon years were perfect for someone like that.

He’s playing like a guy who is doubting his first instinct. Whether that’s confidence, bad coaching, fitness (ie, being too buggered to think clearly) or a change to his role he hasn’t been able to execute, I have no idea. But if it’s a coaching element, I can see why they’d expect him to turn it around. But I agree he’s probably exhausted that benefit of the doubt for the time being.

It could be, that in the coach’s eyes, dropping him is the death-knell for his career. On the evidence available that is not a decision Lyon takes lightly. Perhaps too much loyalty is an unhelpful trait for a coach embarking on a rebuild, but I actually think it is quite admirable.

Ibbo's best form coincided with the players around him, for most of that season McPharlin, Johnson and Dawson were taking the bigger forwards, leaving him to play the intercept role. With only Johnson and Hamling the 2 recognised tall defenders, Ibbo is having to play taller, especially if they expect Johnno to do more of the intercept marking.

I stand by comments of Sutcliffe and Sheridan. Its all well and good them going back to Peel, getting 30+ touches in the midfield but why bring them back into the AFL side to play back pocket. Tabs was kicking goals in the WAFL but didn't make an appearance till his ruck work improved. Why should they be any different if that is the role they are going to play?

Luke Ryan is a natural half back player, so give him a chance in his natural position.

The serious question they need to ask is if their goal is to win a premiership in 3-4 years time, which players will be around then and which players wont. Its not a case of anyone not going to be around then doesn't get a game, you still need some experience around the ball. But if I had to pick between a couple, I would somewhat prefer to see Darcy get games ahead of Griff, Cox/Logue to get games ahead of Ibbo/Dawson and Luke Ryan deserves a back pocket spot. Langdon will probably come in for Danyle Pearce.

Suban, Sutcliffe and Sheridan are midfielders, so anyone not available in the midfield they can come in. Sheridan wasn't too bad in a run with role late last year, but it seems blakely has taken that position on much better at the moment. Still with a couple of years left in Mundy, there is still a position in the midfield for Sheridan, but he needs to lift pretty quick.

Spurr and Sutcliffe have been pretty good in recent weeks. Ibbotson has been slowly improving until the weekend but he was no orphan and the ball was down there all day. But Ryan needs to be tried, especially as he is mature aged and presumably recruited because he is ready to go. Of all the players on the weekend it is Griffin who looks finished and has done for a while.

Fair enough Morgan, but Ibbo's confidence looks like it has been shot to bits, and progressively getting worse with each passing game...surely a stint in Peel may go some way to address this issue..

Our ball movement from the back half has been an issue since round 9 2015 , when Richmond found a way to stop us.
Under intense pressure we have not been able to move the ball consistently enough in our defense like other better sides.
The simple fact is that Ibbo, Sutcliffe and Spurr donot have the agility, skill level or descion making skills to move the ball at an elite level. Add to the fact that Hamling is competant ( but not elite) , Johnson is 33 and while still playing well is passed his prime. This leaves Lachie weller as our only above average mover of the ball in the back half. Most elite sides have more than one and upto 5 or 6.
Our talls dont assist as for some reason we are unable to consistently take marks on our defensive side of the field as a chop out. Seriously we are better of playing Logue, brennan Cox and Ryan in defense and getting games into them this year. We are simply at the very very best tredding water with Ibbo, spur and sutcliffe.

We have looked at our best out of the backline this year with players like Hill, Weller, Crozier bringing the ball out quickly. Ibbo, Spurr, Dawson, Sutcliffe, Sheridan and even Johnno when he stops to wave his arms around after a mark or free, don't move the ball quick enough, and opposition sides have identified that. They are prepared to let Freo get the ball to those players while they man up on the effective ball carriers at the play and down the ground. This effectively gives them an extra 2 or 3 players when we are trying to exit the backline. It's not rocket surgery to work out the solution.

I know a couple of lawyers and the way they talk about their profession is they basically convince themselves to a point where they 'believe their own bulls$&@t'...........either consciously or unconsciously.

Sounds like there could be a couple of lawyers on this thread........

One thing that tells me a player has had enough is when he goes to ground and stays there. Have a look at the tape from Adelaide and the evidence is clear enough for anyone to see.
