After round 2 it was nice to win a few games. Caught bulldogs napping thinking it would be a walkover and won a few close ones. We have some stars but overall we are a middling team. We may make the 8 on the back of an easy draw but more likely 9-12. Exposed by the better teams, it's going to take a few years but without sandi it's going to get tougher before it gets easier. Time to limit expectations and enjoy the ride whatever it brings.

Agree it was complete crap. Just making the point as last week I commented we were in for a 10 goal loss against Adelaide and there were a lot of people expecting much better things even a win or a close game. We aren’t as good as many think and could easily be 2-8 if a few of those close games went the other way. We have been gifted an easy draw for our crap last year. Sure our best footy looks attractive but we are still a long way off the better teams.

Yeah could not agree more clinical - definately time to say good bye to ibbo, spurr, sutcliffe, griff and d Pearce, gotta play the young guys now and if we lose so be it, will get better draft pic at the end anyway - it's got to be about putting a premiership list together now

Big losses vs power, crows, west coast and Geelong prove that we do not have a team that can match it with the best teams in the comp in 2017, no point playing guys that are past it or can't cut it- just to be competitive - try out yet the new guys see if there is some potential there or get rid of them as well - our new game style is good -but got to have players who can win 1 on 1s

Its an open field Shane but not that open. We are not quite there yet. I think our backline needs two or maybe three to come through.

I have seen a little of Brennan Cox and Luke Ryan and its quite encouraging. Tap them in till they run out of puff. Theres no way the current backline gets you a flag.

It's got nothing to do with age - sutcliffe is relatively young - but against quality opponents can not match em - surely you can see that ? Better off developing someone like Ryan, Logue or Cox in the backline so that one or more can match it - look at Weller and Blakeys development after last year

I think what you're forgetting is that we made a grand final with Zac Dawson in the backline. We should be able to cobble together a working defence with what we've got.

I just think its a shame. The midfield is arguably the best in the competition and the forward line is as capable as it is under rated. And I tell you if the backline did not have the number 37 they would be totally screwed. We never seem to get the balance right.

I'm not so sure about that, Shane, but if he was on a performance based contract this year, I really don't think we would be seeing so much of Sutcliffe, Ibbo or Pearce. Throw in Spurr who seems to good for a few intercept marks and quite a lot of turnovers each week.

I also think they game has progressed past his area of expertise anyway. He doesn't seem to be able to manage a fast attaching style of play like some of his compatriots. He was absolutely out-coached last night
