A disproportionate number of indigenous players in the AFL are from WA, and about 1 in 3 are Noongars. If you take it as a given that it's an advantage for AFL clubs to draft the best talent, and draft local kids, then having the most indigenous players should logically follow.

Allowing the Commonwealth to make legislation for Originals meant the racist legislation of backwaters like us and Queensland could be over-ridden but including Originals in the census potentially meant more Senate representation for backwaters like us and Queensland - who had done a far worse job of eliminating and deracinating our Originals than the fancypants states. Mainly owing to geography, not through any good intentions.

I say, like everything else Fremantle, we make our own history. Son-Son can wear whatever number he likes. In years to come, kiddies who dare will then wear that number.

Morgan I love the jumpers too.
Its interesting this indigenous round and all these other recognition / awareness / celebration rounds. Actually its interesting to me how I feel about them.
There is a part of me that wishes that we did not feel it necessary to have an indigenous or an equality or a celebratory round.
Then part of me thinks its a good idea to recognise what these Australians bring to the game.
Then sometimes I feel a little patronising.
Then I rationalise it all by believing that if it is important and meaningful to indigenous people then it should be important to all Australians and footy supporters.
Then I think it should be important every week.
Then I think, bugger it, I'll just enjoy the jumpers, enjoy the footy and be reminded of what Eddy, Hilly x 2 and the others bring to our game and to our team, sit back in the glow and convince myself everything will be alright in footyland.
