Why do are we still indulging the concept that the Imperial use of a numeric system is the only way to define mathematics. Michael Walters should be able to wear whatever he wants on his back to represent the value of his jumper.

Let's not forget that Mikey requested the #11 when Des retired, he was turned down (and given Palmer's old number) - sometime later Sheridan was given the #11. During the Double Steve period they dismissed any relevance to a 'lineage' with jumper numbers - I think, just to p$ss off the rusted-ons. No doubt that gave them great amusement in the boredroom. That all changed when Pav retired - I knew they couldn't just hand it off to some pimple-faced draftee from country Vic.

So no, Walters could not wear whatever number he wanted - still can't (I assume).

I like that Roger Hayden's 43 has never really been passed on. Its not so much that its been retired, just that the players who get it haven't managed to break into the side.
But when Dean Margetts hangs up his whistle, I propose that the number 6 umpiring jersey be officially presented to West Coast.

I suppose I always thought jumper number 33 was our "indigenous" number after The Purple Jesus left ( also it is Cyril Rioli's number) .... then they gave it to Sutcliffe. Would have liked to see Walters wear it in honour of the Wiz, the ultimate small forward.
