I long for something like the old EPL commentators who would say the players name as they enter the action and otherwise shut up. Didn't need to reinterpret what you're actually seeing yourself. Didn't need to make everything into an avoidable failure, a possible report, etc. Footy is dramatic already. My most hated comment are the grumpy 1950 headmaster-like claim that all that is required is effort and things will work out. Hello, I see all players out there busting their guts, totally buggered or both.
Crowd noise only would be a vast improvement over most of the grandiose commentary we get.
On a brighter note, Pav's commentary is great. Actually tells you stuff you might not know and can't see. Let's hope he never takes up dramatisation.
