Just heard on The Couch that Fremantle are seeking clarity from the AFL on the illegal tactics been used on Fyfe
ALso rumour on Fyfe to St Kilda has been completely denied by St Kikda coach

It takes one simple holding call for it to stop for the duration of the match - two for dunces. The AwFL have to wonder why not.

I feel bad that Nat copped a $1000 whack in the trouser pocket so I could enjoy seeing that blockhead Yeo sat back on his date.

That's not true, Pollyanna. Everyone says stuff like that but all it does is spoil the game. Taggers are going to grab hold of their opponent, even if they consciously try not to, eventually instinct kicks in. Do you think Josh Carr would have let a couple of free kicks stop him from grabbing his rabidly escaping opponent?

What they need to do is accept that it's a contact sport and look the other way when the player in front shakes himself loose.

They've tightened up the line of tolerance to an impractical point.

Yeah Shane, all that or just pay the free kicks until it stops happening.

Josh Carr - now there was someone that could get under the opposition's skin. I've seen plenty of games where the umps come down heavy in the first quarter on grappling around the bounces - it stops when the players think giving away a free is worse than letting your target get the ball.

But, I accept the premise of your point Shane - Fyfe's soft, he should quit whinging and just bust through like he used to.

What if we stand someone behind Yeo, and get them to scrag Yeo? Given that Fyfe doesn't get a free when Yeo scrags him, it should all be ok?

You are missing the point Polly. If the holdee was allowed to whack the holder, this would provide much more incentive for the holder not to hold than a simple free kick or 2. Then only the really dumb holders would continue to hold. Yeo would have stopped holdi.... I see a problem in Shane's theory as well.

No Roger in that scenario , Our player would have been penalised for a hold

It'll be very interesting to see just how the AwFuL responds to the the club's questions about Fyfe being constantly held back and grappled with during ruck contests, because, according to AwFuL's own published rules, a player CANNOT shepherd an opposition player when THE BALL IS IN THE AIR, i.e. marking contests and ruck contests.
The rules clearly state that, in marking and ruck contests, there is NO shepherding allowed, meaning players CANNOT make high or low contact, and CANNOT hold their opponents.
According to their own rules, "infractions" should always result in a free kick. But - don't hold your breath waiting for an apology from the umpiring department.

Either the umpiring fraternity and/or Yeo should pay Fyfe's fine. The former for incompetence and lack of awareness of constant holding at contests, the latter for knowingly being a cheat and then whinging when he got a whack for his troubles.

You cant do what Fyfe did. And its a worry cause when it happens once with him he normally does it again.

He should of got a week the fact he didnt is a concession the umpires were not doing their jobs. There is no excuse for the non controlling umpire not to be picking these things up.

You cant leave it to the player to break the hold though, if Fyfe got Yeo flush he would be leaving the ground horizontal.

Pffft. He didn't get him flush though. He grazed him and that was worse than he intended.

Anyway, I think skulls are better constructed than people give them credit for.
