I've been interested to see people knock Sean Darcy however I believe that at the moment his development is being hampered at Peel by the arrival of Jon Griffin after being axed from AFL duties. I'm a great admirer of Griff's commitment and dedication to the club however he shouldn't be getting the number 1 rucking gig at Peel.
In rounds 1-3 for Peel Darcy had 13, 12 & 12 disposals and more importantly 22, 43 and 35 hitouts in the absence of Griff as number 1 ruck. Then in rounds 4-7 Griff takes over for 15, 12 & 16 disposals and hitouts of 22, 43 and 34.
In these last 3 rounds Darcy has dropped off to 11, 2 & 6 disposals with hitout tallies of 18, 12 & 11.
Interestingly enough is a drop off in overall performance from Peel.
These figures seem to suggest that Darcy is suffering from a lack of exposure to frontline rucking duties and let's face it Griff is simply not going to get the job done if Sandi goes down and is NOT a long term solution.
Main point being that Griff and Zac Dawson are list cloggers who are basically taking up space at WAFL level and should stand aside for the future A graders to develop.

The same will apply to Strnadica, who has been totally lost playing solely as a fwd as opposed to 2nd ruck forward.
The situation will compound even more when appeness is back this week. He also is a ruck FWD who needs to spend time rucking. What happens when Zac Clarke is back ( ha ha) . Too many dud talls filling our list.

Yes, but that'seems to be our problem. All the tall guys on our list can only play ruck and give little up forward, Sandi, Griff, Zac Clarke & Darcy or play well forward, Taberner, StRnadica and can't ruck. Our team structure cries out for a guy who can do both, hence the appeal of Rory Lobb. He is ungettable so in the meantime we have to mould the guys on our list to this dual role. Unfortunately, at their age, Griff and Zac don't seem to have the ability or desire to adapt so Tabs and Strnadica are best suited to this role. Darcy just needs to be given the opportunity to grow into the role of leading our ruck when Sandi hangs up his boots in 2019 or 2020? Maybe we can trade Griff and Zac for something as their future seems to be limited.

Why the hell Zac Clarke wasnt traded or delisted last year is beyond me. Yeah, maybe he'd be a good reserve if fit, but yep weve got Griffen.
Surely his time is up at the end if this year.
But I agree entirely, weve got to get time into the inexperienced players, at the expense of these older blokes. ....And at the expense of Peel.

not sure we never had enough talls - the ones we did have were low draft/rookie type talls that were never going to make it. All our early picks generally went on mids.

Some of these problems were avoided before the alignment model by wafl clubs 'recruiting' players they needed in the reverse draft. Darcy would likely have gone to a club that needed a ruckman and would have seen alot of game time as the no.1 ruckman. Ditto Griff at East Fremantle.
But you'll never hear Freo or the Eagles admit the current model might be less than perfect.
