Just noticed a trend for players to deliver solid bumps to players who have just disposed of the ball. Le Cras on Alir, someone on Cloke, Hurn on Franklin. The one on Cloke was a pretty solid elbow to the ribs. Le Cras was head high and left Alir dazed. I think Franklin left the ground after Hurn got him.

So why don't we have anyone delivering these seemingly legal bumps?

Alir was hit off the ball, behind play by Le Crass. A dog act (most would correctly say).

But I remember, not so long ago, that a player was cited for 'electing to bump instead of going for the ball'. Buddy's loss was enormous to that game; Cloke appeared to have punctured a lung - in my opinion, both hits were meant to hurt - nothing accidental at all.

Yeah Polly, a few years ago all these bumps were "part of the game". Then it was decided the head is sacrosanct, and late, going past the ball to bump and high bumps should be taken out of the game. A very selective review process has seen a few players pinged, and many more (due to media pressure) exonerated because of various biomechanical reasons and other bull $%&t excuses. We will see all these players get off with a fine and warning, yet when Fyfe or the like does the same thing today they will get 3 weeks with an early guilty plea.
