An interesting stat to note that Freo fielded a realtively young team on the weekend compared to the other 17 teams that played. Bribane, the youngest team with an average age of 23Yrs 268 Days. Followed by Melb, Suns, Rich, Syd and us at 24 Yrs 318 Days. Not quite sure about age as a barometer but clearly there was plenty of enthuism amongst the group. Whilst there was no doubting the young blokes that came into the side, I thought our leadership group played out of their skin. We know blokes like Fyfe, Sandi, Mundy, Neale, 2 x Hills, Spurr, Walters and Johnson needs to deliver on a weekly basis for us to be competitive but the dillema we have is, can the young brigade maintain their output. The next tier in Hamling, Ibbo, McCarthy, Kersten, Crozier, Sheriden, Langdon, Weller, Blakely are the ones I'm concerned about. Because in Logue, Grey, Hughes and Balic, they'll bring the enthuism for as long as they can. Its a huge ask for Freo to beat Melb at the MCG though the Demons will be looking over their shoulders all arvo.
