Don't know about a new game plan but pace, being first to the ball and contest (winning a few of these contests) without simple horrendous turnovers allowed some link up play to occur.
I tend to agree with Morgan that the biggest change was at selection table too many one paced dour hard working players.

I'm convinced Head Coaches now just spend their whole day in various coffee meetings discussing footy generally with different parts of the footy department. That's why he has crazy eyes - too much caffeine.

Then once a week they have one big meeting with everyone where Lyon summarises the key points from all the different meetings. He probably doesn't even do the PowerPoint slides (I understand the PP team answers to Bond).

This is how Hird never found out about the systematic cheating at Essendon - it didn't come up in any of his meetings.

Can't remember where I read it but I did read somewhere recently that apparently Roly tried to implement this attacking kind of game plan last year, but after the first couple of rounds was pulled up by the leadership group who said it wasn't working for them.

One the one hand this makes sense to me - last year was his way of saying, sure let's do it your way, and then maybe next year you can go back to your job and letting me do mine. Doesn't explain why the switch happened in round 3 of this year though. An alternative explanation is that Roly has learnt from ol mate Trump and is altering the facts

No game plan will work if skill errors leads to turnovers. Freo's first 2 losses were riddled with turnovers. Last night Swan's loss was due to turnovers, with West Coast scoring 10.9 of their 13.13 scoreline solely from turnovers by Sydney.

And it was the experienced Sydney players that were coughing the pill. Not unlike what happened in our first 2 losses.

Our young side will win again if our band of Fyfe et al orchestrates another quality performance.
