I think we are trying to follow the Sydney rebuild model, and maybe Geelong, but we don't have:

1: the attraction factor (location & proximity to Melbourne)
2: the COLA & xtra salary cap
3: an academy or an incredibly strong local comp/culture and recruitment ethos (in Geelong's case)
4: any father-son picks on the way. (and if we keep trading/delisting 100+ gamers who have 3-4 years of life left in them, we never will)

So the plan is flawed.

Rebuild schmebuild. We're getting plenty of the ball. We've got plenty of players who have shown that they know how to play football. I've seen some of them kicking it straight on previous occasions.

They look like they've spend the summer running and lifting things.

It's following on from last year in that there seems to be a complete inability to manage time and workload to prepare a team to play football.

IIRC the club signed off on a four year rebuild. In theory, this should take four years.

According to others it's just a matter of swapping a few players and getting Yoda as coach and we will rise out of the swamp and head for the stars.

CGI doesn't win premierships (yet).

If there were a large group of young players making mistakes under pressure then you might have a case to make for patience but these are very good, senior players running around looking like they don't know what they're doing. For the second year in a row the team hasn't been prepared properly.

This is a management problem.

Sydney has debuted five players this year and seven last year, but they're not rebuilding.

Once the post game dust settles I'm sure Lyon will realise that he was right all along and Suban, Sutcliffe, Dawson and Pearce just need a bit more time.

Ibbo was always a peculiar case, in that every second season he looked like a fringe AA player, and every alternate year he looked like a dud. I could never really put my finger on what was different (injuries, fitness confidence?), but it has now he just looks like a dud.

shane has the answer, and it's long been my view too.

We have enough quality players out there. They've had something sucked out of them and it's been happening for 3 seasons.

We have a rabble of a team with no confidence and they seem completely lost.

Now is not the time to sack a coach who has a good overall record of coaching. The body and person who any anger should be directed at is the Board and the list manager. Ross Lyon is the type of person a club would be bringing in to pull them out of the mire.

He's never had an outstanding list to work with.

Ibbotson is reliant on hurried kicks generated by pressure up the ground. The thing he does well is peel off his player and rebound.

The backline is under siege at the moment with opposition midfielders moving the ball in with ease.

That doesn't explain his body language and visible lack of interest in what is going on out there. Luke Ryan is a good one for one swap.

And they need to get Brenan Cox in there.
