TOPIC: At What Point?

Do you say it is not the players, it's the coach?

We have some very good players, the nucleus of which took us to top 4 for three years in a row. But that team is gone for good.

They turned over the list last year but it is shocking to see good players like Walters, the Hill bros, Mundy, Neale, Johnson, et al. playing so poorly. Seeing Neale getting caught holding the ball in front of goal was heartbreaking.

If you take the EPL as an example, Chelsea are back on top, Leicester have now won 4 in a row and Crystal Palace & Swansea are out of relegation after changing coaches. While Arsenal are clearly not competitive under their coach of 20 years.

Someone else posted that Lyon is like Mick Malthouse and the game has gone past him. When you make no changes to a side that is belted by 7 goals and the result is a 13 goal belting, something is wrong.

I'm not sure who the next coach in waiting is, but Alcock and the Board better start making some phone calls.

The coach isn't responsible for not being able to mark the ball, not being able to trap the ball, have no on field awareness, not be able to pinpoint a kick, not being able to make a lead .... etc ...

I can see that the coach is implementing the modern skills based game play .... at this point the majority of the players don't have the skills to execute.

But he brought in coaches from Hawthorn over 12 months ago.

And my point is the same players who were terrible at Chelsea are now 7 points on top and last years champs Leicester have had their mojo restored after nearly dropping into the bottom 3.

You can't blame skills - it's the same players !

That smacked of being reactive and not proactive too.

If the coach doesn't place an emphasis on skills....doomed.

Of course he is responsible, he has them completely devoid of confidence in him, the game plan, each other and then finally themselves. We all know there are skilled players out there that can kick and mark and tackle, we have seen them do it a few years back. Ross is done, and the most important part of turning the team around quickly will be getting a new coach in by mid season.

A-ha!!! ...you've got to the matter Davo. Hawthorne fellows came in , Anthony Rock came in, Kirk and then Suma went out. THAT is the point where things went pear-shaped. !!! Name one good thing thats happened since then...

The list is awful. Truly awful. We were the third oldest team out there this week and yet the players at Peel are hardly bashing down the door with the exception of maybe Balic. So the question I would be asking first is who is in charge of list management. That's who I'd be firing. Chris Bond in other words.

It's the coach.

No, he doesn't kick goals or take marks. But he's supposed to create a cohesive unit that can.

He can't. I don't think many, or any of the blokes out there believe in him, or have any confidence in what he's doing.

Any better explanations?

For someone whose mantra is 'failure is feedback', he doesn't seem very good at taking it. Sometimes the feedback is that your game plan doesn't work.

It's good enough to get a talented team to lose a grand final, but after five years that team has all the joy of playing cooked out of them.

It's the coach.

He has taught them to go backwards, sideways and get numbers behind the ball. If you have an 80% disposal efficiency and spend 4-5 kicks going back at every opportunity then probability says you will cough it up.

He has coached football out of them in lieu of a game plan that doesn't work

Ricco, 4 - 5 kicks? We aim to string 20 possessions together. No wonder we come unstuck so often.

I just think to completely blame the head coach and call for his sacking is a simple but ineffective solution to a complex problem.
My personal opinion which is qualified on the basis that i have no idea what really goes on in the clubs inner workings is that we have various levels of failure across multiple departments. From recruiting, development, coaching and leadership. I know Ross used to say that things are never as good or as bad as they look from the outside, but things look pretty dire tonight.
