So is Balic similar to Tucker? If so Tucker has done little in pre season or last week.

Think the point is, that we've seen enough of what Suban, The Fist , and D. Pearce have to offer. Everyone would agree that it is high time we found out what Collins, Balic, and, well...., anyone else has to offer. If this is a restump, rebuild, rewire or any other "re" word that can be thought of, we need to get anyone who is half fit and able into the team. In replacing "The Fist"we only have to have someone who fits the "half fit" criteria.!.
Crozier is a different case. Yes, by now, for all his potential, he should be part of the main team, but, he's had a fair go and really hasn't taken things by the scruff of the neck . Has a fancy haircut and has talked to Shaquille, but thats about it!

A player of his ability & potential needs to be absolutely dominating WAFL matches and he just doesn't seem to do that. When he consistently does, he'll show us that he has the hunger and "the want". At the moment, playing for the Dockers is and expectation, not a privilege. ...He's no orphan, mind you...!
All for making sure these young fellows are ready , and have consistent top quality WAFL form behind them, - that part I would agree with - but when the team performance is less than enlightening, and we see the "same old, same old " like last week,....well...surely the critical point is close to being reached?.
Having said all that, ...Hughes, Langdon, Blakely, Tucker, Weller..and throw in two/three year players Mcarthy, Sheriden and Tabernar...and well...slowly, slowly we might be getting were we want to go. ??? Balic, Collins, and Grey....would make 11 of the 22....being 1,2,or 3 year players (excepting Tabs and Sheriden).
Thats a high content of inexperience, huh?? ...and the big question is,... how many of them are gonna be Parko's "A -graders" ??

Have to defend D Pearce at the moment, with the players we have added in B Hill and Bennell if we ever get him on the park, I think he adds to the midfield depth and has pace. I put my hand up and admit I have been critical previously. Consistently gets 20+ possessions a game.
Players that played last week that I would drop are Suban and Sutcliffe. Suban's best weapon is his kick but doesn't get it enough to use it and I think is one paced. Sutcliffe continues to turn the ball over close to goal and is not fixing this.
I like Collins and want to see him in the team but I think we are too easily scored against by oppositions key forward when Dawson is out of the team. We desperately need to correct this.
Players that I thought should have been brought in this week are:
Balic based upon consistent WAFL form, as a high pick must have better than average talent. We have invested the pick should play in the bigs. Most other clubs seem to play their higher picks early.
Crozier,I haven't seen much at WAFL level but when elevated seems to translate to the next level. Has some X Factor and uses the ball well, and god knows we need that.
There you go my two cents worth but Suban will go out and Sheridan will come in.

However the players picked are good enough to face Port Adelaide and we should not get trashed.....looking forward to see some improvement....

Wedge...all correct. I have to ask, what will Sheridan offer that Balic won't? What is Sutcliffe giving that Hughes won't? Can Griff do much more than Taberner? Are we rebuilding or not? Let's get on with it. Let the young blokes have a go, build some confidence, let them play with some instinct...anything but what we have been serving up over the last year or so.

Good Ross Lyon interview on freo website on Adelaide radio. A lot more open than to our media.
Says the younger players will get brought in as the season develops , talks about understanding the disappointment with the team etc

Nah we aren't rebuilding, it's more of an excuse RL and co roll out when we lose embarrassingly and repeatedly to palm off players he doesn't like. If we were rebuilding we'd have gone a very different route at the trade table and our starting 22 would've been very different on the weekend. The team this week is another reflection of that and pretty strong proof why RL is the wrong person to 'lead' a rebuild.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

He's been playing it both ways from the start. He avoids the R word and throws in others that suggest that's exactly what he means - rewire restump.

I know this is how he deals with the media. But the majority of members get all their info that way. He's feeding them too.

He's playing poorly with an experienced team and thinks he can whitewash people with soft R words. You don't rebuild with middle aged toilers like Dawson and D Pearce, and blokes who've had 3-4 seasons who still can't even make the cut regularly. He played kids last year because of low playing stocks. Now he isn't.

Apparently, players like Logue aren't up to AFL standard, but Sutcliffe, Pearce and Taberner are?

I'm not saying we play every kid at every opportunity. But that's generally what rebuilding teams do. So clearly, we're not.

I think its reasonable for the first 6 matches or so to basically play our best 22. Most likely by then we will be zero and six or close to it and out of the running for a finals berth. I cant see us beating Port. If by some miracle we are still in it then I think we just continue to play our best and let the youth develop in the twos.

If and when the season becomes irredeemable, then, I would be starting the second phase of the cleanout we started last year. Dont forget we cleaned out about 14 players I think. You cant get rid of everyone otherwise the youth just get slaughtered, beat up and injured.

First to be given the old Heave Ho will be The Fist, D Pearce who is in his last year, Suban, even Johnno could be shelved by years end. By the end of the season we should have definitive answers on Sheridan and Sutcliffe both of who I dont think will make it.
Weller Langdon and Balic should make it. Jury is out on Collins though as he is a bit sluggish.

Personally I dont think there is much merit in playing Logue until later in the season, hes only played a handful of WAFL games and needs to build at Peel first. Looking forward to see what Ubergang can do though if he ever recovers.

For those who are promoting an all out rebuild then really we should be getting rid of Mundy and Sandi as well as it is unlikely they will still be there for our next flag attempt?

Is it possible that Geelong are a top 4 side and Fremantle are a 7-12 side and were completely outclassed because of the positional differential.

Alas, if only there were another 30 or so games against opponents of various ability levels which would allow us to test that theory.

Out of this weeks team that will actually play
Hamling, Hill, Kersten, McCarthy, Langdon, Weller, Blakey and Tucker are all recent additions.

When I look at what lining up at Peel my initial Feel is there is very little top end talent that will lift the team from current level.
Griffen Logie- I think is a genuine talent very young for key position so early in a live season
Sean Darcy- although the club likes him surely needs to build on fitness given condition he arrived at club, ruck men rarely play at this age, particularly his build type.
Ethan Hughes- what I have seen will be competent at best not dominant
Crozier- as I have stated previously I would play
Taberner- has been given 40+ games Kersten has shown more at AFL level
Balic- I would play, one of our few that could be argued as a high pick
Grey- I feel should be elevated and played as one of our effort players
Cox- have to admit I know very little about
Collins- I like but I get the feeling may get exposed quite often at next level
Strnadica- as with Cox I don't know enough to comment
There is other talent that if available would play, the likes of Bennell and Pearce. I am not convince of Uber or Apeness.
Unfortunately I think we have a talent issue and as much as we all would like to think there is some miracle awaiting to be picked I think this is a forlorn hope. Last weeks team was close to our best available.

I think it's reasonable to say that Geelong are a top 6 side (maybe not top 4). They were brutal, that's true (because winning teams tend to be) but they were also showing higher skill levels and determination to get to the ball first.
The Dockers are probably back to where we were in 2012. And we pulled of a "shock" elimination final win at the MCG that year, didn't we?
Port are probably going to play finals this year too, so we'll probably struggle to impress again this weekend as well.
Ross Lyon says that he'll be bringing in more younger players during the season. Which suggests to me that he still sees the squad as being in a transition phase, and the team that finishes 2017 will be a quite bit different from the team that plays on Sunday. Which is OK by me, just as long as it no longer includes Zac D.....
