Well since it's been asked ghq I believe after watching the replay and listening to after match comments the Game plan, for want of a better wording, seems to revolve around a version of fast play on and moving the ball around similar to that used by other top teams whilst retaining some of the old Lyon defensive mantra. The problem on Sunday was that at times this was rushed and players either kicked blindly to position where the Cats defenders read the play and mopped up or the ball was bombed into attack where Walters, McCarthy and Kersten had no chance when the ball was lobbed on their heads. I'm certain Ross doesn't instruct them to do this so I can only guess that improvement will come with practice. Also players frequently over ran handball dishoffs and dropped the ball when trying to gather in onehanded resulting in a turnover. Neale and Mundy were frequent offenders that I noticed. Sandi and the midfielders were also working on setplays that worked quite well on occassions but again this is a work in progress.
It's easy to sit back and take potshots at Ross and assorted scapegoats in the playing group but the fact is Ross has been contracted to end of 2020 on a 4 year rebuild plan. I don't think that's what the target is and if we can be around about 10 or 11 wins at seasons end this would fit the model with a big push into the finals next season still only in year 2. That said, if our guys do click and get on the same page by mid season there is no reason why top 8 is out of the question this year but this would need an injury free run and guys like Alex Pearce, Apeness and Bennell to come into the side.
If there is no improvement by mid 2018 then we can make a judgement call but for the moment I would call on all true Dockers supporters to stop the whingeing and get behind the team as there is some real talent and they need our support, alternatively there's always the mob up the road.
