I listened with great interest to Ross's press conference.....was he at the same game as me? His presser sounded just like the first one last year.....full of same quotes and statements..."its not me to judge" "i take responsibility" i should have prepared them differently" "ratchets ???" "drivers???" "i know what we need to work on this week"...........

The team he left (St. Kilda), starting rebuilding in 2012 and their coach Alan Richardson started in 2014. They're suppose to contend for a finals spot in 2017. They lost to Melboune by a big margin as well. Now Melbourne has been rebuilding since forever and they've been through more coaches in the last decade than I care to remember. We've had a list overhaul in the last 12 months and you blokes thing that's an overnight fix. Furthermore in Fyfe, Sandi and Johnson and McCarthy, they've played no football in 12 months. I like to know what you think is going to fix our dillemma by coach hopping.

He's just making excuses now and they don't fool anybody who isn't drinking the koolaid.

He selects the same blokes week in week out even though they are not at AFL standard. You don't do a rebuild by holding the young guys out of the side.

You don't coach a side the way he's doing it. The modern game requires speed and skills. The way he coaches, we lack both. We don't play direct, we play sideways, backwards, we hold the ball until they get players forward and defend. Our players seemingly can't hit a target by hand or foot because they lack basic football skills, yet they keep getting selected.

At least Harvey tried to win. Roly can't claim that.

At this stage, I'd be happy if Ross stopped trying to coach them and just said, "Boys, go out there and enjoy yourselves and show 'em what you've got." I think then we'd see a team running and kicking forward, not standing still and kicking backwards, and those with the sublime skills that we see every now and again would be free to show them off.

It couldn't be worse than it is at the moment.

Maybe I'm still grasping on his coaching success over the last 10 years of which he failed to make finals in 2006 (first year at Saints) and 2016 ( injury riddled year for Freo). But I don't see it as all doom and gloom. Maybe I'm forever an optimist because if you're not, then its time to give it away. I think there's plenty of upside so I'm hanging in there.

Being an eternal optimist is probably setting yourself up for disspointment.

No one has said another coach will fix anything. Some have asked the question as to when Ross comes under scruitiny. Fair question.

I reckon in about three weeks is when he'll start really earning the seven figure salary.

It comes down to cattle. He doesn't have that much at his disposal. Love to know who down at Peel can turn up in the bigs and change us into a goal scoring machine. We have two natural forwards. Our backline (even Johnson yesterday) couldn't hit the side of a barn. Rebuilds don't happen overnight.

I hear you jezza he's a great coach and easily the best coach we'd had. But yeti is right we don't play direct, at stages the players look unsure moving it out of half back. Hesitations about switching and you know that turnover is about to come. The afl have made changes to speed up the game and eliminate stoppages which were what he's focus and strengths were. So every team has changed including the rules but we still stay the same?You never see forwards leading into space. He needs to adapt quickly because it could be a repeat of last season.

Yesterday Geelong played the same way they've played for years - we weren't prepared for that. We played the same way we played last year, all effort and no direction. It has nothing to do with the Deaf Cheats, or our list - we've got quality footballers, the best in certain positions (as does Geelong).

RoLy loves talking to the fans in a sort of secret language that implies he's onto something. Hidden away in all of those corporate speak buzz words and double sided sentences is an arcane knowledge that underlines his standing as The Best Coach who really does have A Plan.

You can buy into that all you like. I prefer to look at concrete facts like scorelines and ladder positions.

The man's had half a decade to get them right. Explain that away.

I find it interesting when guys like Barlow & Menengola who have left to play at other clubs talk about the difference in freedom, being allowed to back themselves, take on the opposition and using different game plans compared to what they were used to under Roly.
