Polly is spot on. Cant make silk out of a sow's ear.!
We have wasted far too much time on The Ape and he was a very hopeful pick at best. Rugby player with a busted knee as your first draft pick???? This is something 'normal' teams don't do.... Even if he can get above the injuries , he doesn'tknow where to go, and how to get it. No use!
Tabs is definitely "a project" .... but a bit like one of those level 6 model aeroplanes with no instructions! - i.e. all the bits are in the box, and it looks pretty good, but .... how in the bloomin' hell are we going to put it together?...and WHEN???!!..
Thing is, Tabs has had a fair go, and really hasn't taken things by the 'scruff of the neck', and its high time that he does. Otherwise, he is and always will be, a number 11 selection in the rookie draft that we hope we could 'make into' a genuine AFL forward. At the moment he's tracking as a good WAFL forward, and thats that.
Every other team seems to be able to draft, and develop genuine forwards. Name one that hasn't. Ok, some of those are father/son, and ,yes, natural big fowards dont fall out of trees. But in 23 years, we've got it right just once, and maybe, just maybe, we should rethink how we go about our recruiting strategy, because even if we manage to nab one in this years draft, we are still going to be the team that in 25,26, 27 years , has only managed to draft only one quality foward.
...And then, in true Dockers 'bat poo crazy' fashion, we made him run around in the midfield for most of his career!!
